I have a 318 stroked to 390 with eldebrock aluminum heads and air gap intake. I am looking for a some suggestions on what spark plugs might work best. I usually race it once a week and drive it on the street to and from the track. I checked eldebrock site and they recommend champion ion rc12yc checking the heat range chart that seems to be at the hot end of the heat range. Currently I have ngk r5671a-8 v power racing plugs in there. They appear to be about in the center of the heat range. Just looking at them they seem a little to cold for the motor. I am looking for any ideas that you guys with more experience might have.
Thanks in advance
Dave

Been running Autolite 3924 or ar3924's for 6 seasons in my Edelbrocks..Champions are garbage!!

I ran the ones edlebrock recommended and wasn't happy. Threw some colder plugs in and things improved but I can't say how much or what number the plugs were.

The 12 may be a little hot. You can use the RC9YC plug if you want an extended tip plug. Champions are NOT junk I have been using them in everything I do since 1972 when I got my first dirt bike.

A Champion plug in a dirt bike?
That's just heresy man. :D

The question on heat range is what is your compression ratio?!! I run champion and or autolite-no big diff

The compression ratio is somewhere between 10 to 1 and 9.8 to 1. The motor made a peak 509 ft-lbs @ 3900 and 430 hp @ 5300. Right now the plugs ngk heat range 7 seem to be a little too cold but I don't have any previous experience with aluminum heads. The carb used is a quick fuel SS- 650 which is probably small but it seems to work very well on both the street and at the strip.
Thanks for any advise
Dave
