Trying to take cam out... won't get past first lobe. Is there a oil pump rod or something I need to take out?

if it has been in a long time its going to have carbon build up on the bearings journals spray them with a grease cutting spray while turning cam then a spray lube like crc or wd 40 be carefull not to damage cam bearings when removing, did you remove oil pump drive it might turn easier

So engine has to be up....?
Not sure exactly what You mean by "up", but usually I try to pull the cam w/the eng on TDC#1, once it's ready to pull. As zkx14 said, the dizzy, oil pump, fuel pump,& lifters all
have to come out 1st, there is no pushrod for anything but the 12 rocker arms, 1 a piece, lol! Depending on the vehicle, the rad. & grille may both have to come out, and it's a
little tricky pulling it all the way w/o nicking the bearings w/the lobes. Get a long bolt w/a sleeve on it the same thread as the cam bolt, & use it to help control the process.

Already taken care of, but what I meant by "up" is that the engine needed to be raised by a hoist in order to make enough room for the oil pump and oil pump shaft to come out... first mopar, and first engine I have ever needed to do so much just to swap a cam...

Other than having to yank the oil pump(which kinda sucks), it's really no different than any other cam job................
