can anyone give me some advice on removing the steering column out of my 72? I have the 4 bolts to the dash removed and the 2 bolts on the firewall, I just need some advice on how you get it to come out of the gearbox.

There's a roll pin that holds the coupler to the steering box input shaft. Drive it out with the correct size roll pin punch and it should come off with a bit of persuasion.

yup,
tap that roll pin out with a nail set or a punch. i had to get a few hard upward taps on the coupler to break it free.

There are two sets of bolts at the floor board that need to be removed....

Use a pin punch (flat end with straight sides) Nail punches are tapered & can wedge in the hole & damage / not remove the pin.

You can also apply a little pressure to the coupler once the pin is out by tapping a pickle fork in between the coupler and the gearbox! It doesn't need to be slammed in there, just enough to apply force to the coupler while you pull the steering column out!
