Picked up an edelbrock SBM intake that is uncut-not machined.. Iam not sure what to do now honestly, do I need to take my car and new intake to machine shop? Take the new and old intake to machine shop?

Thanks for any replies

Interesting. Last time I saw an unmachined intake it was a few Offy poly 318's that Racer brown had. Short answer - there's potential to machine it to match stock all the way to maybe an Indy head. you can do whatever your wallet will allow.

Kinda figured the wallet thing.. has an imperfection on the bottom side. Even the bolt holes for the carb are not tapped

Pics would be cool. Sounds like you got a raw casting. What model is it i.e RPM, Performer, Torker, Etc?

Nice! Looks like you have a hole that needs welded up.
Bad casting is why it was never machined, but is not a problem just couldn't be sold as new. If you can't figure out what to do with it let me know.

I for sure will.. not sure if I have time and $ to do this swap.. already have installed Eddy 750 and Eddy rpm performer ..
Runs great on the 416 stroker... Picked it up cause iam bored and nothing left to do on the dart.. LOL

more pics would help. that hole could be welded, or the exhaust crossover could be blocked. what is not machined? any engines around that it could be set on?

I had one burn a hole right about in that spot, 340 6 pak factory manifold. Had to have it tigged.

Ok received the intake.. looks to me someone sand blasted the holy hell out of it.. so now how do I smooth/sand the mounting flanges flat?

Yea dgully'
It does look to blasted to death that's why it looked unmachined. That hole is probably melted through from the heat riser being stuck shut and forcing the hot air through the intake. I had to repair another one that did the same thing only blew out on the side instead of under it. You also need to look it over real good to make sure it didn't burn through on the inside. Let me know how it works out.

I have a extendable camera that I'll look over the inside. But wondering how to smooth the sand finish off with out taking much material..

I sent a pm, Brian

You take it to a machine shop and have them fly cut it until it cleans up. Or try it as-is. It may just seal pretty good as-is, assuming there isn't some other porosity in that casting somewhere. You could have that checked too with an FPI test.
