Headliner Swap ?

-
Are you sure the cardboard headliner that’s currently in your Dart is original to it? I know in ‘73 they replaced the cloth material which used metal bows to the cardboard type. Yours would have had the the cloth type originally.

There is no telling what has been done to this car,
has also been converted to 4 speed, buckets are gone replaced with bench.

I did it in my 72 duster..it is not easy... but it can be done...

My 70 Dart came with a cloth one, think you just need to get the rods with the clips tha go in the roof channel.

Might be able to tell if it was cloth by looking for the “teeth” under the front windshield gasket that holds the cloth?

I'd re-think this.

I switched my 69 from the bow style headliner to the cardboard type.

what I did was to take the cardboard liner from a 73 or newer car and I covered it with modern black headliner material. Easy and looks great.

looked at the headliner today, I knew it was torn.
it's coming out anyway, for repair or replace.

Reason for the question is..
I have the rods and clips for a 70 cloth headliner and a new headliner vs recover the cardboard one

Yup should be fine. Headliners are not hard to install just take your time. Also Dodge a bodies don't require you to remove the back window like Plymouth a bodies. I have taken headliners that were still good from the junk yards 15 bucks with the bows and installed them again

I think it would work fine. My 71 swinger has rods/cloth type and I wouldn't think the 70 and 71 would be any different.

when I did my duster I deleted the shoulder harness. it will be difficult to work them into the cloth headliner. but I kept them should the next owner want them.measure ... measure... measure.. and go for it. the cloth will look way better than the cardboard imho....

I also purchased a cheapie garment steamer from craigslist to "steam the wrinkles out. I bought my insulation for the roof from home depot for 15 bux. don't skimp on the adhesive. 3m makes some good products..

Summit has a roof insulation for $20 to fit a 60-70 Hard top ford, the blackened fiberglass is pattern pressed on one side for glue, it's two pieces 1"x 18.5" x 48". I don't have to remove the back window, the teeth are available with a smooth plastic tool. Who said to do that? ( a painter) The manual I have said to start at the front bow and work back to the roof hooks. Then stretching towards the front teeth. Then the sail panels and door trim. Use Permatex white headliner adhesive to hold up the insulation and edge work.
