Unless the engine is modified such that there are misfires from reversion the answer is no.
If the burn is already pretty good, a CD ignition will not likely improve it. A good inductive can be better. It depends, but we're talking very minor differences.
The MSD electronics are slightly faster that the typical Chrysler box, so it may be better in the top end of 1/4 mile. There are other ways to address that.
If you do install it, leave the ignition wiring alone. It doesn't matter to the MSD if the 'on/off' wire is powered through the ballast resistor. That wire just signals the MSD to turn on. The MSD draws the power to run and for the capacitor through the heavy red wire. That's the one that should be attached close to a power source, either by the battery or the alternator stud.
