360 LA: Is converting external balanced converter to neutral possible?

I am currently running a pretty stock 360 LA configuration, which includes an externally balanced converter and harmonic balancer. I am now building an internally balanced 408, and am wondering if I need to just buy a new converter (I know I need a new neutral harmonic balancer) or if I can simply cut off the weight tabs. Look forward to any suggestions or comments.

Slice down into the welds with an angle grinder. Don't try to just knock off the weights with a hammer!
