Fusing with fire
I will say my fancy shroud went to the scrap bin. Now my fan is on aluminum straps and no more heat issues.

I just reread all of these old posts, I had to ditch the elec set up and go to a full shroud and mech. fan. The 1/2" thick shroud on the elec fan set up didn`t pass enough air over the entire rad core , just like RRR said.
I have a lot of h.p. and can only run a 17' fan, due to room , and cant even loose the airflow needed with a clutch blocking part of it.

I am assuming that all of you folks that are using electric fans have upgraded your electrical systems to accept the extra amperage that those electric fans require ?

If painting radiators black helps, how come every air conditioner condenser on a house or business is unpainted. Color only matters when there is light exposure. The reason all the outside a/c condenser are not black is that they would absorb heat from the sun, thereby lowering their efficiency.
Assuming that the radiator material, such as copper or aluminum is a better thermal conductor than paint, then paint can only lower the efficiency, not increase it. It will act as an insulator. Color is irrelevant. The only way for paint to increase efficiency would be for it to add more surface area.
In practice, the radiator paint is so thin there is probably not much of an effect. The only reason radiators are painted is for aesthetics. Brass tarnishes and sloppy soldering looks bad.
