Was at a buddies house last night as he was finishing up on a timing chain and water pump replacement when the long bolt on the bottom drivers side that goes into the water jacket stripped the threads before it came up to torque.
Of course it leaked pretty bad even without any cooling system pressure on it yet and he wants to try and use sealer on it even though it won't tighten up.
I warned him that it could very well leak coolant right into the oil if that bolt won't tighten up.

He said the bolt he took out was very corroded, but he never checked the threads before putting it all back together.
Now the only way to fix it right is to pull everything he did and heli coil it.

Check your threads, as they are just as important as the bolts.

The Chevron Station I worked at in the '70s tried to fudge a water pump repair where a bolt snapped off. Sticking the bolt back in with sealer did not last very long, owner returned to the station with some back-up help.

on smaller stuff like that, i trust the torque wrench in my elbow more than the one from the tool box
