My girl dropped the key for her 04 honda accord and the case split open resulting is the "chip" falling out.

She could not find it so now its lost and that is the only key for the car.

What do I do?

I'm having the car towed to the house and I will deal with it tomarrow.

Do I need to have the car towed to honda?
I need to get this figured out ASAP.

thank you for your time and advice.

Go to the Honda dealership with the VIN and proof of ownership and they can issue a new key. It probably won’t be cheap, but there is little alternative without the original functioning key.

At this point the cost just is what it is.

The problem is my girl needs to fly to palmsprings tomorrow for work and will be gone so I guess theres no fixing it while shes gone?

She has to be at honda?

Wait. Check with your local locksmith. If he cant help you, he will know someone who can.
I know of two mobile locksmiths that can initiate a single key. Requires special programmer, similar to a scan tool.

OUCH!!...
no kidding
but thats what the last 2 have cost me

funny story, i only had one keyfob for the charger because they also wanted that much for one

well, one day it had to go in for a recall (steering collumn lock, i believe)
so, we had set up a date and reserved a rental
i get there, and no rental
nothing they could do, the guy who had it before me didnt bring it back on time
so we drove across town to a rental place, the service guy ordered a rental, and i drove home from there
then when i had to return it, same deal, it had to go to the rental place instead of the dealer, so i had to meet the service guy there and he drove me back to the dealership where i picked up my car

a few days later i get a call from them, asking if i was happy with the service, so i told them what i just told you, and i pointed out, it wasnt their fault, but that didnt make it less annoying for me
the girl said she was sorry and asked if i would like a few free oilchanges
i said i would, but i enjoy doing those myself...but if she really wanted to make me happy i could use another one of those keyfobs
she said, no problem, come on over, so i did and thats how i got one "for free"

Call Honda dealership and ask.

forgot to mention, call honda in the morning
if the car is only in her name, you may be screwed, but explain you got the title AND most of the original key, that might be enough

any chance the car is listed on your insurance?
anything to tie you too it
(or perhaps they will let you call her, identify herself and give verbal authorization)

Thanks guys!

Anyone wanna buy an 04 accord?

My girl is not happy, should I use this time to tell her "I told you so"?

I've been telling her she needed to get a spare key made for a YEAR....

:drama::rofl::realcrazy:

205 bucks.

I got a entire new key with the key fob so not bad. The locksmith said I can order the chip for the old key and he will come back and program it for me.

He even offered to help look for the lost chip but I informed him it was lost in palo alto...

So I gave him 220 and let him keep the change.

Not great but also not to bad. The worst part is it ate up a full day but I called my customer last night and informed him what was happening and that I couldn't make any progress on his build today.

Thanks for all the help!
