I wasn't able to get the ignition curve that I wanted with the bushings and springs supplied by MSD on my 8534 Pro Billet Distributor. I needed to get 25º initial timing, so the advance had to be limited to around 10º, and the biggest MSD bushing limits it to 18º.

I found a bigger bushing on ebay, but I didn't want to pay U$35 plus shipping and taxes since I live in Brazil.

So I just got a couple hex nuts with the same internal size of the bushings, so they would fit the pin that holds the bushing, and used a file to round the corners and shape them to the size I needed. You just need to round the corners a little so the nut can move free inside the slot.

Hope this can help someone.

Crackedback here on FABO makes 10 and 14 degree bushings that he will sell to his friends and FABO members for a very reasonable price .

I used to make them with a hillbilly lathe... a nut at the end of a shaft/mandrel mounted in a drill with a file held by a vise. Worked great with a set of calipers to measure.

The bushing I have now are done on machinery by a really cool friend.

I can ship them internationally in an envelope like a letter in most cases or a padded envelope. Doubt it would be $35

Hey, thanks. I didn't know crackedback has them for sale. No doubt a well made bushing is better than a rounded nut..

What is the price for the 10º bushing?

I was really just putting that up for other less handy fellas , I'm sure the one you made is just as good as any . Necessity truly is the mother of invention good one bud !

Marcelo,

$10us plus whatever the envelope/postage cost

I also machined my own limiter bushings.

Biggest i could install is 0.393“ (10mm)
Result is 14 degrees.

So what diameter did you use to get 10 degrees?

I'm not sure what dismeter he used but they have to be filed flat on 2 opposong sides to move freely .I'll check my stuff in the garage to see if they got unpacked after the move .

Sorry I didn't see your question before. I made the nut into an oval shape, so it would clear the slot and yet have the right size to get 10º. I can't remember the exact size though.
