Working on the Cuda out in the garage, still trying to get the top rad support off before I pull the engine/trans. I was moving various junk from the side of the garage before; I need to pull the camper over there for the 4th..lots of family and friends show up here, as we are right across the street from the fairgrounds where they light off fireworks. Parking is at a premium at my place, and I set up the camper for those that may have a bit too much and need a place to crash.

The boy comes home, blasting his rap stuff. I ask him if he can weed whack next to the garage. "If you get the rest of the stuff out of the way, I can do it right now! I won't have time tomorrow, I'll be with Starleigh!I have to pick up Starliegh soon!" Starleigh is his new girlfriend.. ah, to be 17 again.

I clean the stuff up while he runs in the house to pee. He comes back out, goes in the garage to get a weed whacker, and doesn't come back out.

I had Fleetwood Mac's Rumours cranked in the garage.. loud.. rattle windows in the house 30 feet away loud. My reason for this was, the neighbors 2 houses down decided today was close enough to the 4th to light off firecrackers and bottle rockets.. scaring the **** out of my dog. You want noise, assholes?!? Here's some noise!

So, I go looking for the boy. He broke up with his girlfriend of 2 years about 2 weeks ago, and met Starleigh. His old GF heard he was hanging out with her, and played the whole 'I miss you, but I don't want to get back together' thing... my wife straightened him out on that, lol.

I find him in the garage and he's air guitaring to Fleetwood Mac's 'Don't stop' and singing full throat.

He jammed until the song was done, weed whacked the whole property, went in to shower before meeting up with Starleigh.

I have hope. :)

Starleigh huh? They sure are coming up with odd names for kids these days, sounds like a Pokemon...

Seriously though good for him. That whole "broke up but still want to be with you" thing is a killer, seen some of my friends go through it and I'm always like "yo, grow some BALLS man and take control of your life!! If she was worth being with in the first place this situation wouldn't exist!"

Starla from the “regular show”??

Just joking of course.

The wife set him straight on that.. 'she's playing games.. don't play it'. As for her name, I kind of like it... not near as odd as some I've heard.

Sounds like it turned out a good kid there. I hope Starleigh is worthy of him. ;-)
I don't know what happened to the asshole he used to be (alright, still is at times, but what 17 yr. old boy isn't?). I know a couple people from her family, nice people.

Yeah, I'm just glad my son never dated a "Chiquita" I'd had to ask him why he was datin a banana. ....and I would have, too.

Well yeah. There's "THAT". lol
I'll admit, I had a few doubts. Then again, I've learned a few people had that thought about me, just because I didn't get married until I was after 40, and worked in nursing for a lot of years. Idiots.. single guy working in nursing for years? I had more tail than I knew what to do with. :)
I'd be ok with it, but there would be a period of adjustment for sure.

Yeah. I can relate. Mama forced me to volunteer at the local hospital when I turned 14. I was the only Red Tie in a hospital full of Candy Stripers. My friends all kidded me about that. I just "let them kid". I returned three summers after that. It was "fun". LOL

I remember a confrontation I had with my old man at about that age. Don't recall what it was over. His response was "I brought you into this world. I can just as easily take you out." By the look in his eyes I could tell he was not jokin' around. It must have worked. He taught me a trade that kept me busy as an operating engineer for 39 years.

As I'm not his bio-dad (been with him since he was under a year though), I can't really say that. The wife however, has said that a few times to the boy... and she wasn't joking either. Kid was good for a long time after that. :)

It sometimes takes longer than you expect for them to see the light.
My son finished his apprenticeship as a heavy duty mechanic, got a solid job and bought his first house last year.
I never thought it would happen.
I make sure i always praise him for his accomplishments.
And i choose my words carefully when he screws up (DUI).

<~~~~ ex apprentice. "Go get Alex. He'll do it. He'll do anything." Or after crawling around under conveyors and rock plants "Do you just rub dirt all over yourself as soon as you get to work?"
