I am swapping out the UCA's on my 71 Scamp to 73 up UCA's to fix the disk brake conversion issue. The ball joints were the problem. Anyway the passenger side went fine. But the drivers side is about a 1/2" less wide than the 71, does not appear to be bent, looks perfect. I had to back out the bushings to fit, will this be okay? And yes I know the brake line isn't attached.

You shouldn't need to do that. Someone in the past has narrowed the gap installing upper bushings by beating on it. Measure the other side and compare to the drivers width.

That's not really O.K. the arm needs spread back out to fit or get another arm.

Yeah I know, not happy! The old arms on both sides measure 8-1/2" width this one is 8". I properly pressed in and out the bushing's. It dosen't look bent, could it be from a B or E body? Getting nowhere on this one.

B and E are different you couldn't mix them up with an A-body. Just spread those to ears apart.

Get a couple long 4x4's put the arm in between them and spread

Took a piece of 5/8" all thread with big washers against the ears on the inside and pushed them out with nuts. Turned the nuts out to spread the whole arm. Did it several times in small increments. It was amazing to see how much memory the steel had. I started out spreading a 1/4" and it came right back. Then I went more and it came back less, finally got all of it back to the width it should be. Hopefully the alignment on Wednesday will go successfully and I will make sure he understands what I did to the UCA.
