I finally got around to installing my box and column and the darn thing won't turn lock to lock. It's like it gets stuck (either direction). It only rotates a quarter turn.

I thought something was hitting, so I removed everything but the center link and nothing changed.

I also removed the column and no change. Called up PST and they are sending a new one. Kinda bummed because it's all in, now I have to take it back out.

Anyone else ever experience something like this?

That suck's, I guess you should have checked it first.

I just got mine and it's super hard to turn. I can't do it by hand like i could with my old one. I better actually check mine before i actually install it.

Yea, be sure. I can turn mine by hand, but like I said it stops. It did the same thing with the column installed. We'll see when I get it out of the car, if anything changes.

Yes the one I have was super tight. I also did not notice until AFTER installation, you know the deal headers clutch linkage etc. Lesson learned on my end.....

No, after talking to pst they allowed me to adjust it my self. I have the fsm for the procedure and have rebuilt a couple of boxes on my own in the past. I did have to back it off to the point where I almost could not get to back off far enough it was set so tight.

Dang. Could you turn it lock to lock, it was just super tight?

Yes, lock to lock was ok. It had a real tight spot just off center on both sides. Pst said to just drive it and it would loosen up on it’s own. That was NOT going to happen, two hands on the wheel and you still could not keep it straight. Not very good advice. Ok now after adjusting out with a couple hundred miles on it.

Thanks. I'm gonna take off the pitman and center link and try it again, see if anything changes. Otherwise it's going back

Sorry I missed this last night. Just check with pst BEFORE you adjust or make any changes, they did tell me if I did anything to it it would void the warranty. I had to talk to a second person before they said it was ok to adjust it. Hope this helps....Mark..

No worries. I talked to the Customer Service Manager yesterday and he is going to verify stock and let me know today. If he has them, I'm going to purchase another and return what I have for credit. I can't wait for them to receive mine and then ship out another.

I'll still investigate mine closer when I remove it.

plumkrazee70,

If you want to adjust it yourself please let me know and I will scan and email the procedure out of the FSM if you need it. Please pm your email. Please let me know what you decide to do so that I can track progress of your situation on our end.

Thanks, James. I'm going to wait to hear from Dave, about the stock, then go from there.

What size steering wheel do you have out of curiosity? I have a 20:1 manual box with the stock steering wheel and it's tough to turn the wheel from lock to lock when you're not moving and on dry pavement.
You might want to rethink a 16:1 box with radial tires. It's gonna be a ***** to park it!

Not sure the size, but it's a grant wheel. So to clarify, the car is up on jacks and there is no steering attached to the box besides the pitman, idler and centerlink. So it should freewheel very easy.

I'm regards to it being hard to park, I'm gonna add electric power steering, so I'm not worried about the ease. Lol. I'm taking the car to the paint booth on the 25th so I am on a tight schedule.

Absolutely. There are a few threads floating around here. I will do my best to do a complete write up with pics.

if I spent the money for a new box I would at the least expect it to be adjusted properly .

Just to confirm: I don't need a "fast idler or fast pitman" right?

I got th box out and it seems like it turns a little farther off the car than on, with the steering linkage hooked up. Maybe it is adjusted too tight and with the linkage attached its That much harder to turn. It felt like it just hit a wall, but I didn't want to force it.

In all honesty, I'm not interested in adjusting it, it should be ready to go. So hopefully the new one I get is better.

We do our very best to ensure that all boxes go out adjusted and ready to install. We have sold over 100 this year and 128 last year we stand behind our product. If there is an issue with our product we work with the customer to resolve it as in this situation.

Thank

Thanks, I appreciate the response. So far so good on getting the new one quick.

But to confirm, I don't need a different idler or pitman from at stock, right?

No you can use your stock ones. This box uses the small sector shaft.

Thanks
James
