Thinking of replacing my 5x10 single axle trailer with a dump trailer. I'm looking at a 6x10 with two 3500lb axle. This would also haul my subcompact tractor. I know they are expensive and probably not economically feasible to have but, oh well...Anybody have one and can share their thoughts.

I know someone that might... @Tooljunkie

If you don't have a cat trailer, make it big enough for that use as well.

What does a GA cat trailer look like RRR? Wait a minute...maybe I shouldn't ask that and I probably don't want to know. Given the fact you're showing off your cat in your avatar.

You know what I meant, dummy. lol

I bought a dump trailer that was destined for the scrap pile.
$500
Bought a scissor dump off a 1 ton dump truck previously to build a trailer. $400
bought a pile of steel to rebuild trailer
$1,200
Misc parts, lights wiring hyd hose paint and a couple brake plates.
$5-600
Was a ton of work, but in the end i have a dump trailer with double acting dump cylinder.
Axles are 6 bolt 6,000 lb.
When i insured it i de-rated it as it was “home made”. I can get away with pulling it behind my 1/2 ton.

Hauled a dozen or so loads to the dump, its awesome!
Keep in mind 3500 lb axles-trailer weight will eat up capacity of one axle.
Buddy borrowed trailer and put 5200 lbs of rock and mud in trailer and dumped it.
I wish i got one sooner.

First time i used one of these trailers was after a bunch of trees on my property got scorched from the neighbours garage fire. 19 huge loads of brush/roots to the dump.
I had to have one after that.
Cheapest pos i found was 2 grand. Then i remembered the crusty one someone had mentioned.
500 wouldnt buy a set of good axles/springs.
1/2 the summer building it.

My wife took it upon herself to paint it.i think she did a great job, batman theme and all.

I'd really like to find a deal on a dump trailer to throw my scrap medal in and be able to only handle it once. Rather than throw it in a pile and then load it up when the pile gets to large. But they are expensive.

Make damn sure your truck is heavy enough for it and you are dumping on fairly level ground. A friend of mine in the construction business got one. Had it behind his one ton, rear back on a typical slope. As the dump bed went up, the center of gravity in the trailer changed, lifting his truck’s rear wheels and he started sliding backwards.

He put the bed down as fast as he could, cleaned out his pants, then unloaded the trailer on flat ground. He sold the trailer the next day. Loved it on flat ground, had no use for it on sloping ground.

Bet it was a highboy and wheels were centred on trailer.
Because mine is so short,it will never be an issue.
