I'd like to know who deleted my posts?

Speaking as a moderator/sysadmin on a variety of forums over the years: that's a real nice theory, and maybe in a perfect world that's how it would work. In this world, here's how it works: volunteer moderator encounters a thoughtless, troublesome post. First one from this poster? Okeh, probably just made a mistake or didn't understand the rules. Ask 'em to fix the post (or fix it for 'em or delete it, depending on particulars), ask 'em to please review the rules. Nine times out of ten, there won't be any further problem from them.

Second one from this poster? H'mm. Well, everyone has bad days; I've certainly been known to let my mouth or keyboard run away with me from time to time. Ask 'em to fix the post (or fix it for 'em or delete it, depending on particulars), remind them of the rules.

Third one from this poster? Tell 'em this is getting old and they know better, and (depending on the forum setup) let 'em know they're cruising for a time-out or other enforcement action.
