Are all early 'A' body steering columns the same?

I suspect that they all are the same and I plan on moving to a floor shift (B&M Unimatic). Thus, I want to delete the tranny shift lever and the indicator on the top on the column, and need to know what to look for.

Thanks in advance.

They came in a few varieties I can think of, there may be more. Manual steering floor/pushbutton shift, power steering floor/pushbutton shift, 1965 only column shift (cable) manual steering, 1965 only column shift (cable) power steering, 1966 only column shift (rod) manual steering, and 1966 only column shift (rod) power steering. Typically painted the same color as the interior before installing, so the interior color is on the lower column tube visible in the engine compartment, so technically there would be the available interior color versions of each for a given year.

There are a bunch of different pre-'67 A-body steering columns, but if you're talking about a shift lever and an indicator on the column, that would mean you're working with a '65 or '66 car. You can use a '63-'64 automatic column, or a '65 or '66 column out of a floor-shift car. Steering shaft length differs (power vs. nonpower steering), and shaft-to-box coupler details vary (changeover to new type in '64-'65). Column-to-floorpan mount plate is different in '65 vs. '66, might also be different in '63 or '64. You can transfer your existing steering shaft of the correct length, and your mount plate of the correct configuration, to the column jacket with the no-shifter/no-indicator configuration you want.
