I bought this car when I was in my mid 20's for a little over $3000 dollars. It had a manual 3 speed, 3:23 posi. I added some safety mods such as a scatter shield and drive shaft loop. I then upgraded to 4:30 gears, a set set of Jardin 1 5/8" under chasis headers, and yes a set of JC penny wrinkle wall slicks, and a Crower blue print cam. In this configuration the car ran best times of 12.88 and 109.73. Hot Rod magazine did an article on the car. I changed the grill to the '71 style and added the appropriate thermoquad carburetor and a four speed. Blue printed the engine and heads, added Brooks pistons, a crower roller cam, a Dana 60 with 5:13 gears, Hedman 1 3/4" headers and went racing in the SS/I class. Problem was the 68 SS Camaro was in the same class. I was giving them 200 lbs. That's like racing with a passenger. Couldn't be competitive. They had 2 tenths on me. For a street/strip car, best bang for the buck. You can read the full article about the car when I returned it to the street with a 440 in it. Eventually it ran in the 11:20s at 123MPH with a 9.1 motor. There is also a section in the same book I did about building motor plates for this swap.
