So a few years ago I was given a 5.9 Magnum nearly complete.

It was removed from a Durango because it had a "slight" rod knock.

Is there a certain rod bearing that goes bad on these or is it just as likely to be any one of them.

I'd like to tear into it but would love to start with "the bad one" if it's possible.

just pop the pan and pop the caps off, shouldnt take too long to find the culprit

IF a bearing deteriorated , i think you're going to want to rip it all apart anyway...

If the spark plug wires were routed incorrectly with numbers 5 and 7 right next to each other, the number 7 cylinder would supposedly be susceptible to early charge ignition from the magnetic induced pulse from the number 5 cylinder firing right before it in the firing order. There used to be a technical service bulletin warning about this. I have never actually seen this cause a rod bearing failure, but the technical service bulletins are based off warranty service reports so it sounds feasible.
If I was to choose a cylinder to start looking, it would be number 7 just for that reason, but there is no way I would stop there if I found the problem or not. I would always check every rod bearing one at a time because there could more than one damaged for other reasons.
My 1999 Ram 2500 tore up a rod bearing in about 2002 or 2003. Mine was likely caused by towing a trailer over GVW while driving too fast with the overdrive turned off. The rods did not get enough oil in my situation, I think.
