We have access to lots of limestone around here also... There's a huge quarry just off of I-80 about 5 miles from the Indiana border... That dam thing is deeeeep.... It's scary looking down at it when you pass by it...
Thornton Quarry is one of the largest aggregate quarries in the world, located in Thornton, Illinois just south of Chicago. The quarry is 1.5 miles long, 0.5 miles wide, and 450 feet deep at its deepest point. Gallagher Asphalt Corporation has been operating on the grounds of the quarry since 1928.
