I was wondering if anyone has experience matching original paint. I have 66 Dart paint code AA1, is it possible to do spot painting or is going to stick out like a sore thumb. I realize in its current state there is already a lot of "sore thumbs" It's really not in my budget to get the entire car painted. I have rust spots that need repair, Just looking to see if anyone has done this and how it turned out. I really don't mind the patina look but would like something that is more eye pleasing until I'm able to get the entire car painted.

Thank you,

Jay

you will never get a match o n that you have in a million years. I worked in the body shop industry for 17 years. If you want to address the rust then address it quickly and live with the primer spots until you are ready to paint the entire car. Your paint is too faded to match exactly it will be obvious where the spots are. There is just no way to get the correct matching flat appearance to match exactly on your car based on the photo.

Yes what @earl a body said, use gray primer.
Prep each area good and flat, after repairs are made, wet sand with wet/dry 400 grit, when you like water you see, prime it and walk away
