Hey all,

I have a '74 360 in my Demon. COMP XE cam, Torker II, ported iron heads, and a QF 750 on top. I've been looking at purchasing the NX mainline nitrous kit, but the only issue is she retains all of her original cast rotating assembly. The motor circulated some coolant at one point and nearly went kaplooie (some connecting rods are blue but they're still good). It has a fresh re-ring and is still running on break in oil. It may be some time before I pull trig on the kit but I'm curious as to your thoughts on how much this motor can handle. Thanks in advance.

Try this.

I remember mopar lover, and nitrous guru Monte Smith's critique of that EM episode. He basically said that they screwed up, that that engine shouldnt have grenaded with that amount of nitrous. He said that they didnt pull nearly enough timing out of it, it didnt matter how slow you ramped in the hit.
Even though i have zero experience with nitrous (yet, ive got a 250hp edelbrock system) ill bet Monte was right. Tune, as always, is EVERYTHING!

Considering that you don't care about your motor (hence, running it with "blue" connecting rods), do with whatever you like. If it were me, I would not put nitrous on any cast piston motor, but I have herd that you can do a 100 shot and probably be OK....but I would not push it.

I ran a 250 cheater system on a stock 75 440 many many times. Kim
Just because you CAN do something, doesn't mean you SHOULD. With a stock, low power 440, retarded timing, you could get away with it for a while....but sooner or later the extreme heat/cylinder pressure will crack those cast pistons and separate the rings from the lands....Just sayin.

And see, that right there is the difference no one takes into consideration when telling someone not to do it. Older FACTORY cast pistons are very high quality. Aftermarket cast pistons, not so much.

By any chance would you have a link to what Monte said? No biggie if you don't. Just couldn't find it myself.

No link, sorry. But i can tell you where to find it. It was in the power-adder section of that "other" mopar site, with the too-many adds (moparts).
I havent been there in months, never was a member.

Don't do it!
