I'm putting new brake pads and hardware on an 8 3/4 rear (year unknown). It has 10" brakes. I ordered shoes which say they fit 65-72. On the shoes I removed, there is a pin for the self adjuster. The new pads have a hole in the same spot. I see self adjuster rebuild kits come with what appears to be a new pin. Do these get replaced? If so, how are they installed as the old one seems to be part of the shoe. Thanks.

Yes, they get replaced. Tap the replacement pins into the new shoes with a hammer (after supporting the shoe properly).

Thanks! Seems odd you have to buy a self adjuster rebuild kit every time you do shoes but this should be a one and done job. You guys are awesome!!

Many times the pins are included with the shoes, you just have to install them.

The original pins should come out by tapping them with a pin punch & hammer. Like Professor Fate said, support the brake shoe, I use a socket of the right size & height to do this, works every time.
