So I plan a 5.9 magnum swap into my 72 Dart to upgrade from the /6. Plan to use a A904 trans. The donor vehicle is a 2000 Durango SLT. I’d like to use the factory EFI from the donor. After searching through the site I believe using the PCM from the donor will cause a no start or run issue because of security or VTSS, is this correct.
I think my options are:
1. Buy a new PCM from Solo programmed for a manual trans and no security. Are there other vendors who do this?
2. Try to find a scrapyard from a 2000 5.9 Ram with a manual trans and no security (not sure how to tell if it has security by looking at the PCM if no keys are available)
3. Reprogram the existing PCM for manual and no security. Who does reprogramming?
Is all of this correct?
Thx for the help, great site with tons of info.

The jtec ecu can now be tuned via hp tuners software it’s the most complete way of tuning. If performance and upgrades are in your future that’s the way to go.
HPTuners – Connect > Read > Edit > Write > Drive
If you want to run it stock and keep it stock then contact flyin Ryan. With an sct programmer he can get you set up.
FRP Tuning
Before you do anything though you should wire it up and try to get it running to verify that your ecu is even running the security lockout deal. I’ve done 3 and none of them were. All of the ones I’ve done were 2000-2002 ram truck doners.

Yup, you should be able to find a late-model tuner locally, anyone using HPTuners or SCT Tuner should be able to get you squared away if any issues arise; but as TT5.9mag said- get it running first. You may not have any issues at all. If it does have the security feature active, you won't get a no-start, you will get a start and it will die within about 5 seconds; but it will start.
If you can't find a local tuner, you could try these guys:
Auto Computer Performance, ECM, ECU, PCM, engine computer, auto computer, ecm repair, pcm repair, ecu performance programming margate,FL
In addition to many build threads on here, this site has some good info, but it takes some digging/scrolling to find things:
David Belau | 1967 Plymouth Barracuda budget pro-touring build (wordpress.com)

I may be wrong, but I think the security deal occurs when the donor had a chip key. I have a 2004 Dakota, and it does not have a chip key...so I think you will be good. Are you going to use your existing harness? I have a low mile 5.9 from a 1998 3500 pickup that was a stick truck. I will be putting it in an 88 D100 with hopefully a 518 OD trans. I am going to use my existing harness that came with the motor and try to follow the tutorial that @TT5.9mag posted in another thread here. Good luck with your build!

IIRC on those magnum motors, the vehicles with a black key did not have the security feature, but the ones with a grey key did.

I can flash the trans out no problem.
I believe with HPTuners I can flash out security as well, HOWEVER, I have not tested this yet. With SCT I can remove skim but not security. They are the same concept but 2 different features.

V
ERY GOOD QUESTION.. haven't found any online sellers with a new pcm that already is programmed

2. Try to find a scrapyard from a 2000 5.9 Ram with a manual trans and no security (not sure how to tell if it has security by looking at the PCM if no keys are available)

WHEN SEARCHING FOR PCM
always find the vehicle first then peel back the plastic around the ignition cylinder( where key goes)
if it has a skim module (insert picture here) attached you can skip to the next donor wont work
ALSO
a pcm from a a 8 cylinder 4.7 liter dodge will also work..ive tried it to see if it would fire up and it did

3. Reprogram the existing PCM for manual and no security. Who does reprogramming?

I THINK THIS HAS BEEN ASWERED QUITE WELL[/QUOTE]

LAST BUT NOT LEAST!!
MAKE SURE YOU WRITE DOWN THE VIN NUMBER OF THE.DONOR VEHICLE . VERY IMPORTANT LATER

ALSO sorry but most durangos had the skim attached i found

I went through this same deal.
