May as well buy a restored Mopar.....

‘I bought the best car that I could afford.’
Always a wise decision, whether you’re going to work on it or just drive it.

It's all pretty doable with decent mechanical abilities until you get to the body and paint :realcrazy:$$$
I paid $1,200 for my 340 Swinger in march of 1978 all original pretty much the way you see it now minus the new paint job, and interior and motor upgrades .LOL

This is 100% not a knock against you or the Duster guy or anyone else for that matter but just to not confuse people 8 or 9 thousand dollars spent on a reasonably decent start of a classic Mopar will result in a average to better than average home build, which is perfectly fine in a lot of cases and probably would get the overwhelming vote of agreement from feedback off of here but if a person was really looking to actually restore the car and redo, rebuild, restore everything on it then 8-9k will never ever come close to making that happen.........again i'm not knocking your car or anyone else's either as to be honest I haven't seen them in person but what I do know is that if you want them looking like they did when they were new and or even better in some instances that kind of money will not even scratch the surface. Enjoy your car, I own a 71 Demon also and like the color you have on yours.
I'm confused as to your argument. 1. I spent 12K to start with. A lot of stuff had been done to it. 2. I do 100% of the work. You could spend 12K on the paint job I have on my car but I did it for under $600. If I had to pay for all my hours then you are probably correct, I'd have around $70K in it...which is stupid.

Before anyone says that paint cost $1200 on up, I use Kirker brand paint. I paid $92/gallon for 2 stage paint. If I had just purchased what I needed it would have been much less than $600 but I purchased different temperature reducers and activators for various weather conditions. I have experience in auto body so no it is not practical for most people.

I'm just gonna leave it alone and refrain from trying to justify what I meant.....enjoy your car it looks nice

I think people often forget when you pay someone to do something its not just them your paying. They have a business.all those overhead costs are figured in otherwise its not smart business. So the way i see it yeah its easy to spend 5 10 or 15k on paint body mechanical etc. So buying something done or a solid complete project makes sense for most people. Hell i wish i had half you guys mechanical knowledge or connections cause id love to cram a new hemi in my duster. But i dam sure cant pay someone to do it. There is no right or wrong when it comes to buying or building

My theory is Buy the best car you can afford. If you are not into the hobby at least you have a good start on a nice driver. If you are into the hobby and do your own work you can make that good car into your classic your way. For me personally it is all about doing the work-my hi cost therapy. I can do and enjoy doing all aspects of building my cars the way I want. My Barracuda is a good example of how I like my cars. Hell----It's why I have one on a rotisserie and in primer at 75 years old. I enjoy doing the work. More in this subject "when the legend retires"
