65 Gasser?

-
This is just me but I see no point in hacking off the Mopar factory frame rails.

Front rails on our 64 are stone stock. Just tubes out the front for the shackles.

2"x4" mild steel rails tied into factory rear rails. K member rewelded in stock location. 8 point cage.

65wgn440, Are you using the factory steering box along with the stock K frame ?

Here are pics of what we did. Simple straight forward. Had to add a plate to top of tube in front to make up difference. Odd size inside of rail. One thing we kept in mind while building this thing, the car ain't pretty. Wanted it look like we just drug it out the barn.

Anything will work if you can EASILY get parts for it........

Found an axle from a 56 chevy truck local for $75. Other than the lug pattern being 4.75 would there be anything that would shun me from grabbing it?

I ended up buying an axle from a Ford Econoline. Another question is would/should I cut the axle to narrow it or would I be ok to use it at the length it is? Also I have 2 C Body 8.75 rears. Again should I get it shortened or could I run it the way it is?

If you look at Uncle Tony's You Tube vids about SlagHammer I think the front axle is too wide.
But it might be the look they were after.
They may have used a Econoline axle. Never found out if they did.
I have to admit I only get about 1 or 2 minutes into the vids before clicking on something else.
I believe that you can narrow the axle and re-weld with a sleeve.
Don't know for sure.

Steve Magnante's build on his AWB Dart used to be found on the puter. I do remember he cut and narrowed the front axle but I don't remember what it came off of.

His came off an A 100.

I checked.. Steve Magnante wrote a book on "how to build the altered wheel base car." Amazon on sale today like $23. He did an early Dart and a Ford something Fairmont? some years ago. If I was serious about a build his info is worth a few $$ I bet.
