Hey guys. I saw a guy with a slant six dual exhaust and I loved the sound so much. I’m planning on doing the Dutra Dual headers, and I’m wondering if doing the Duals into a single pipe has enough benefits to make it worth losing the sound of the 6cyl dual exhaust. My dad says the scavenging benefits are worth it in his opinion but neither of us have the experience with this particular set up so I’m hoping someone here does. What do you think? True Dual exhaust or 2 into 1?

Inline engines almost always respond better to a good HP single exhaust. If you do like a two into one wye pipe....or even get something like a Flowmaster wye, it will beat a dual system hands down. or if you just want it to sound cool, put duals on it.

A 6-2-1 system with the right length sections & merge points, or the DC/MP 6-into-1 header will make more tq/hp hands down. If You're smitten with the back&forth pulsation of separated duals, (2) 2" or 2 1/4" are still way better than a single 1 7/8" one, enjoy whichever You chose.

I’ll enter this posting about duals or wye to large single to basically and efficiently build the exhaust system. For many years now I have used a real dual exhaust system on my 70 Slant6 Dodge. I installed a set of Hooker headers on my engine over 20 years ago. From the 3 into 1 collectors I had a 2.25” aluminized real dual exhaust system with “H” pipe installed just down from the collectors. Then down to twin 26” glass pack mufflers then all the way out to the back ending just under the rear valance. Seems to sound nice.

What car and year? What engine and what have you done to it?
It’s a 74 Dart Sport with a 77 225. I haven’t done anything yet but I’m accumulating parts to hot rod it. I got a cam already (.440 lift on both intake and exhaust, 264° duration) I ordered a redline intake manifold to do triple Weber 45DCOE setup and I plan to run Dutra Dual headers.

Where and when did you get your Redline intake? I've had an interest in one for a while but can't seem to put my hands on one.

Just to be clear, the Dutra Duals are split manifolds, they are not headers. They're good though and I like the quality. I've seen a pair of the Aussie Dutra Duals up close and personal rather recently. They're nice. Be careful though. Do your research, because those don't always fit with every intake manifold out there for the slant 6. Maybe you can start a thread and see if anyone runs that combination and how the fit is.

That’s part of the reason I chose the redline manifold/Dutra combo. They fit together off the shelf

That's awesome. I'm glad to see somebody actually do research FIRST and find out. lol I wonder if the Redline intake will fit with Clifford shorties? hmmmmm....

Might be worth finding out. If you do, let me know. That knowledge might prove handy one day…

Thanks for the link. It looks like they are in stock now.
Doubtful. They just emailed me last night and told me it’s gonna be 4-6 weeks before it comes in from their supplier. He did say he’ll check in weekly and let me know though

Just to let yall know, Gill Welding in Tennessee is a dealer for Aussie Speed stuff.

My 2 cents. A nice 2 1/2'' single exhaust with high flow muffler and 2 1/2''full tail pipe sounds great.
I used Clifford shorty's on a 225 3 cars and felt the single exhaust weighed less that a full dual system.
Performance is comparable if not better.
