Damn disease

One night with the witches brew and it spins! Hehe. Clean up some plugs. Line up some power…….

I think the 4 door is practical for today thing with the 2 door is there is no room. People were short and thin in the old days and a truck was two workmen and tools in the bed. If doing any cruising yes the 4 door.

Well, after that adventure, the head will come off! I got it to spin this morning. Then it wouldn't. Figured the starter possibly died because I used 12 volts to spin it. Even though everything I've read said it is fine to do. So I yanked the starter and the damn thing is fine! Crawled underneath and removed the inspection pan on the clutch. Got a bar and turned the engine a little ways and hit something. Spun the other way, hit something. I think a valve or two must be stuck so tomorrow I'll find out.

Man I love being stubborn. I came out this morning and spun the engine through its free area. I determined cylinders 3 and 6 both had stuck valves. So I dumped more juice in a proceeded to work back and forth with the fan. Knowing I couldn’t do much damage with a slippery belt. 5 minutes later it spun freely. Now the starter cranks it over nicely. Wheew. I really didn’t want to tear into the engine!

Ok. That did not pan out as planned! I am stubborn but I get rammy sometimes. This was the wrong time for that. I was freeing up the last valve and, yup, the last one and I broke it. DUMB ***. Yes in capitals! Anyway new valve on the way because this engine isn’t common here being the 218/230 version. So apart comes the front end to be bodyworked and splashed. They are very easy to disassemble. That is a bonus. This truck is so original that the driveshaft is still green and black camo! The frame has paint almost everywhere.

2 bottles of scotch. One at $100 and the other at $122. I felt bad and he felt bad! We are both happy and I have a new buddy with beautiful land. I might have to take up elk hunting again. We had a great time rescuing the box.

Holy highway robbery Batman! That's the steal of the century right there.

I passed on a '51 because it had a boom rig, and the cost to replace the box was too much for me. Wish I would have gotten the truck, prices went through the stratosphere shortly after, and all the diesel conversions popped up a year later. Now I couldn't afford a grille shell for one of these. I still think they are one of the baddest trucks ever produced.

engine tag looks like a warranty tag. If you let the motor get overheated then the attaching things melt and the tag falls off and invalidates the warranty... Looks like this one was never overheated!

The pieces are coming together. Rear fenders and tailgate acquired. The fact that the ambulance had a 121” wheelbase means the box will need to be shortened. Darn. A shorter than average Power Wagon!

Operation no more 9’ box well underway. Total box length 98 7/8”. Still get a full sheet of plywood in. It’s like it was made for it.

Thanks Steve.
Ya it was down for decades, If I hadn't been a rammy dumbass it would have been awake a week ago!

Ok. I stepped outside the box and listened to the utube. I don’t watch that often but I was wondering about spring archs. The truck was 3” difference in wheelbase side to side. One side had a sheared bolt in the spring pack and was ahead. The other side was farmer loaded and sagged right out so it was back from center. The bolt was an easy fix. The arch was too! I nailed it first shot. Will it last? Probably because the box doesn’t weigh anything. I removed 3 of the 11 leafs too. This was made to carry an ambulance body. Slightly heavier than a 52 box!
