In what state do you live.

It is an easy process

I stay at a hotel that is on the same road as the border crossing and a taxi can bring you straight there.

From there you drive it to the commercial crossing, where all the big trucks are and cross it there.

You will be given the Mexican ownership documents along with the customs documents and with that you can register the car in your state.

You will have to check with your state for specifics, but people bring in cars and trucks from Japan all the time so they should be familiar with the process.
