looking for a little more out of my 225. it stock, runs good. i am looking to put a bigger single exhaust on and carb and intake. is a holley 390 too much for a stock 225? how is the old weiend 4 brl intake? i bought the car and was told the motor was blown up. have all parts to swap in a big block, but turned out to only be a few pushrods. guess im going to run it with the slant for awhile.

I hear those old intakes are great. I see a lot of people running up to 550 cfm. I'm also going to run my 225/ for a while. It runs great after 18 years not running under neath a tree.

You WILL be disappointed with a 4bbl if you done do some head work(at least os valves and shave the head or deck).
Your BEST bang for you buck is 2bbl super six and 2.25 exhaust back to your free flowing muffler.
If you still have money left get a GOOD stall converter in the 24- 2800 range.
Next is head work.
My 02.

if all your looking for is increased performance, super six and a 2 1/4 exhaust are the way to go. Its night and day performance increase and mileage goes up too! I love mine and you will not be dissapointed. Leave the 4 bbl till you change cams, shave the head and go "all out"

The 225 in my 73 Dart I am putting on a 2bbl just for better mileage and maybe a little performance. The 225 that is going in Nikkis 48 chevy is getting an Offy intake, Holley 390, headers, ported & milled head (haven't decided how much to take off yet) and a cam at a later date. The 48 will be her daily driver so It wont be a super go fast motor.

well... im having better luck finding an affordable 4 brl intake and carb. im not a slant guy so im not going to argue, im lookign for info, but in theory i dont see why a 390 wouldnt work fine on a 225. primary should be smaller than the super six and secondarys will only open when your on it. whats is the super six carb 280 cfm or something? i cant see 100 cfm hurting, especially with a header. the header will flow better than a cast manifold, and im going to do a single 2 1/2" system if i do either swap. only because i have left over pipe, mufflers, glasspacks, and madrel bends in the garage right now. i guess i could port the head. are different year heads any better?

390 works fine on a stock /6 - tunes real nice with no problems passing emmissions. had mine that way for 2 years before i went ape with the rebuild. once i rebuilt i stepped it up to a 500

Its of course your choice. However Go 2.1/4 or 2.25 pipe from your header back and you will end up with more power than a 2.5 or 2.1/2 exhaust. Although the cfm rating looks the same on 2bbl and a 4bbl they dont really equate. Thats why alot of racers run a 500cfm 2bbl on a 4 bbl manifold. Remember your fueling " an angry Bumble Bee" not a Big Block.
