I bought an aluminum air cleaner off of a guy but he had glued a piece of foam on the top. It's been on there so long it's as hard as concrete. What can I use to disolve it without damaging or dis-coloring the aluminum ?

It depends on what type of glue it is. Try denatured alcohol. If that doesn't work, then try WD-40. Is this aluminum piece polished, anodized, plain?

A lot of glues are very heat sensitive. If the other methods don't work try a heat gun on the low setting first then the higher setting. If it going to work you should be able to wipe it off with a rag fairly quickly.

i ALWAYS USE AVON sKIN SO sOFT ...WORKS EVERYTIME AND NEVER HURTS THE ITEM BE IT PLASTIC OR ANODIZED .... WORKS ON GLASS TOO

I tried the heat method and soaking in cleaner, no good. It's not polished or anodized but I don't want it stained either. I'll try the avon product if I can find some.

Try "air craft paint stripper" avail at Walmart, Or brake cleaner, or oven cleaner, but that could discolour it. Acetone is a good solvent on lots of glues also,so is lacquer thinner.
Be carefull what ever you do. Wear gogles, and rubber gloves.
