Forgot to put exaust manifold in place before putting head on...now can't get manifold on. If I remove the head, won't this ruin the gasket. That's why i wanted to pull the column but can't fiqure out how. It' a 64 cuda with manual steering and I removed a clamp at the end of the shaft. This exposed the the "split" at the end of the shaft and I see the splines that this split end slide over. I don't see any roll pins or any other methods of this being held in place. I can move the shaft up along those splines but only about a 1/4 inch. It's a 340 with the hipo exaust manifolds. Any pictures of manual scans would be a great help.

To pull the sterring column, remove the bolt at the bottom of the column that connects it to the sreering box. That's the only thing holding it on. Remove the bolts under the dash, and pull. You might have to gently help it along at the spline.

Please disregard. Sometimes I just feel like typing a long paragraph with one finger. Actualy I had a case of the dumbass, I was expecting the column to slide out of the tube. Then I said, lets undo those two nuts under the dash just for ha ha's and, well she just slid out as easy as could be. Anyhow, hope this thread can prevent dumbass from happening to someone else:read2:

thanks Dave, actually had an enlightenment before I read your reply. Again thanks for the quick reply. Pete

Please take pics of the drivers side manifold, near the starter, and steering linkage. Are you using a "small" starter?

Thanks.

Don't know if it is a mini started but I think so as the overall legnth is about 6".I seem to remember starters being bigger back in the day. I took pictures but I don't know how to get them to this site (forum). The barrel is about 3-3 1/2 inches in diameter.

that sounds like a mini to me!
