you can get fuse blocks like these from places like Amazon

    Pistons

Yes and you could of answered most of your questions with just a Google search, (like most of us do) and your asking a very particular question about an engine your don't have or seem to have any interest in and even if you did doesn't seem like you plan on doing a rebuild and you had answer in...

    360 vs 383

Even though there's is some benefit to run a 383 at lower hp like gearing, a 360 would generally make more sense for most unless you have or would rather invest in the bbm platform, with 360 only place to go is basically 408, starting with 383 is ground floor up to 500+ cid are possible down the...

    what size megafuse?

If you go Ford type starter relay then only a short wire from the battery to the relay has power all the time the rest of the cable only when starting.

    360 vs 383

I'm not saying the 360 did or didn't make more overall power, but at least some of that 3 tenths could be that more than likely the gears and stall suited the 360 better. One of the main reasons to go larger less gear and stall generally needed.

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

We use to have the tailpipe test but because of our winters causing cars to rot, most drive fairly new cars so garage's weren't making enough money off of it, so it's gone for now.

    what size megafuse?

I don't know exactly what you need but it's got to be more than the maximum amps you will draw and small enough to protect the cable you put it on. Here's the 1st chart I found Power wire Max fuse size 00 AWG 400A 0 AWG 325A 2 AWG 200A 4 AWG 125A 8 AWG 50A 10 AWG 35A 12 AWG 20A...

    360 vs 383

My Avenger RT goes pretty good, there impressive little engines, got to be decently into the 300's gross hp, plus there geared to take advantage of the power they make. That's a 12.39:1 Total 1st gear Gear Ratios1ST 4.127, 2ND 2.842, 3RD 2.283, 4TH 1.452, 5TH 1.00, 6TH 0.69 Reverse 2.21...

What is the horse power benefits

There's really no plus of a 318 with 360 crank over a 360. But built similar they will make similar power and torque since there now fairly close to the same size.

That's family sedans numbers now :)

    360 vs 383

Eg.. A decent out of the box average available heads for 360 is SM, Eddy, Trick Flow, to build a 383 similarly would have to use similar hp capable heads as these which you can easily exceed with average available bbm ootb heads.
  15. 273

    360 vs 383

If you build them similar there gonna perform similar, it's just the 383 has a decent amount of advantages so if you built them similar you would of have to held the 383 back one way or another.

Plus were talking 70's tire technology. What does it matter what they ran stock 50 years ago.

    2.76 vs 2.94 gearing

I imagine you 273 powerband is fairly flat, so even with less rpm per mph you'll have similar hp available to you at the same general road speeds.

    2.76 vs 2.94 gearing

You'll lose 7% in torque multiplication, basically like losing around 20 lbs-ft across the board at the crank.

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

Far as I know Chevy changed whatever year from 2.30" to 2.45" mains not that a car 327 came with 2.30" and a truck 327 came with 2.45".

    360 vs 383

I'm Guessing most people wouldn't run a ritter block cause of it's weight then? I'm sure strangely people would have little problem running a 4.25" bore taller deck small block for better rod ratios for 4-4.25" crank with add weight for strength.
  24. 273

    360 vs 383

Cause most would start with 400/440 don't mean a 383 can't, it's got enough bore and can take most of the same parts. Torque at peak hp is around 90% and peak torque for this kind of build should be able to get around 1.4 lbs-ft per cid so 389 x 1.4 = 545 tq x 90% = about 490 tq @ peak hp, 700...

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

I bet if they had ready to go short blocks to go for each of the popular top end choices in that market, they would be in higher demand with credit card builders.
  26. 273

    360 vs 383

I bet the average big block is making more hp per pound of engine weight, especially in a A Body.

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

Think the OP was talking about a relatively cheap re-placement block for average 340 builds.
