1972 Duster return to the road

Ok, I had a perfect used dash pad I put in my 72 Duster. I think Classic Industries has a listing on new dash pads

    A few 2-Step questions

Most of the cars I seen using a 2 step when foot braking use a pressure switch in the brake system. Some had a toggle switch that had to be turned off after leaving, and some used a switch on the brake pedal or on the steering wheel to activate. Could also use a switch on the shifter that opens...

1972 Duster return to the road

Do you have a dash pad? I have one with a crack in it. If you decide to install a dash pad cap, I was told it would be easier to do when out of the car

Slow Crank, No Start When Warm

...check voltage drop cold before starting and then warm, to see a difference. On my car, I run the fans constantly before shutting off the engine. And sometimes run the fans after shutting off the engine, to cool down under hood temperature. I have not seen water temperature above 200* at any time.

    [WANTED] 727 transbrake

I have a A+A Trans Brake valve body #22770-5. Date code 7/9/11, serial # 111778. Came in a 904 that I bought, I rebuilt the 904 and installed a CRT Trans Brake that works in 1st or 2nd gear. I have not used it. I took the 904 park rod off, it would just need a 727 park rod. I was saving to put...

Slow Crank, No Start When Warm

That is voltage, but not voltage drop. Voltage drop will check for high resistance in cables and connections , causing the starter not to get enough voltage. Heat increases resistance

Slow Crank, No Start When Warm

My race car is wired like that, the solenoid is jumped at the starter, and had a Ford style solenoid back near the battery. That way the battery cable to the starter is only hot when the engine is cranking. Depends on how the rest of the car is wired. Sometimes the factory starter relay is used...

Drill guide for 4 1/2" bolt pattern

Has anyone tried the Hells Gate Hot Rods drill guide to drill the axles and brake drums to a 4 1/2" pattern? www.hellsgatehotrods.com

    bolt torque spec?

I don’t see a listing for those bolts, maybe because they are not serviceable. I would look for a 8 3/4 clutch type sure grip, and see if the bolts are similar diameter and length. And try that spec.

    Turning torque for engine

Turning torque will be different, depending on if the spark plugs are installed, and if the valve train is installed. More compression and more valve spring pressure will increase the turning torque. I have assembled engines that would turn over at 12 inch lbs, until the spark plugs and push...

Line lock help, it's making me crazy!

Is it possible that the line lock is plumbed backwards? I thought that they had an inlet and outlet. And the cars I work on have the adjustable proportional valve on the rear brakes

Solid rollers with off set push rod hole issue.

I would think that if it was the offset, all the intake lobes would be affected. My buddy tried a set of Crane roller lifters years ago, with a R block W7 heads. The first run on the engine snapped the tie bar holding the lifters together. His thought was the offset put a side load on the lifter...

    accessory holes B1Ba heads

It has been quite a few years since I purchased my Brodix heads, but I thought that they had the ability to be drilled for accessories. If I was going to drill mine, I wouldn’t drill past the thickness of the boss cast in the head .

Crossover Tube and Valve Spring Pressure Questions

I don’t think that I would block the oil to the drivers side lifter galley and install the crossover on a hydraulic lifter cam.

How much power will a stock 904 handle

My dad's stock 904 went 12s, my brother's stock 904 went 12.60, and both could have gone 11s. So put a stock 904 behind a stock engine and not worry about it

How much power will a stock 904 handle

They will handle plenty of horsepower, if built correctly. I have been 9.90 et with a 3200 lb AMX, and my buddy has been 9.60 with his 68 Dart. I put over 300 runs on the AMX with zero issues.

5/16” is the line size, 1/8” is the pipe fitting size that goes in the transmission.

    360 push rod dilemma

I have a bunch of factory push rods, I can check if you want me to. I have used 5/16 and 3/8 diameter already. I have removed some out of 318 engines, that I thought were pretty skinny, but I haven’t measured them

    Camshaft Keyway direction

One way will be advanced, one way will be retarded. I would be best to check the centerline of the cam with a degree wheel. But I can tell you that all the cams that I checked, I have not retarded the cam to get the recommended or required position.

Sounds like another track may be closing

They had the race at Maple Grove, not as many faster cars than the New Year’s Eve race. The rain Friday and Saturday morning probably kept some from making the trip. They had a daily driver bracket class, couldn’t dial quicker than 10.00 in the 1/8 mi,no trailer towing and no burnout . Gave 2...

    Crank gear differences

My thoughts are that different timing chain manufacturers have different specifications for their timing chain sets. I do not mix up different gears and chains, learned that as a kid messing with dirt bikes. Always change the drive chain and gears as a set

    Front plate/ water pump question

I would like one of those timing covers! I run an engine plate that is cut out for a factory water pump, and use the Meizere back plate and electric water pump. My friend always borrows my backing plate for the dyno

    Cam Timing

...because it is easier to see if you are a tooth off. Which I think is tdc #6 firing. If you turn the crank 1 turn, the cam gear mark will be at 12 o’clock and #1 firing. This is after degreeing the cam. I degree every one, after finding a couple that were retarded 10* when lining up the marks .
