Hardened valve seats - do they really matter?

Times are changing for sure. Not as many people rebuilding these older engines. The newer stuff LS for example runs longer then the entire vehicle is scrapped. I typically took a few heads of whatever I was building to the machine shop. They would take the best ones and install hardend seats...

    Tremec TKX first cuts

Have not done much with the car. Been dealing with a divorce for a while. Rough deal, mentally, physically due to stress and financially. I was also pondering swapping in a 6.4. I am now thinking of continuing with the original plan of running the 451. Going to order the solid roller...

    426 hemi advice

I would also assume it's a big gamble. What caused the damage? How was it repaired? Is it std. Bore? Is it just the block? Was it froze? The extent of the damage? We're the repairs successful?

    Gen3 hemi tkx swap

No worries. What you said was relevant and correct. I may have missed something. I am hoping to be as happy with my hydro clutch as you are with yours.

    Gen3 hemi tkx swap

Slanted Darts scenario is different than yours. He has extra space between throw out and clutch. His crank flange is shallower on the gen 3 hemi versus small block. Quicktime lists the bell housing being the same when the gen 3 bell should be shallower. That's what I believe was the issue.

    340 motor mount orientation

Do you have a bent 318 mounting bracket on a 340?

    Gen3 hemi tkx swap

I was wondering how that was going with the bell. SST or American power train does not make a stepped pilot? Doesn't take much to make it but? A bit of extra space there for the hydro throw out too. A shallower bell would be nicer but glad it's working. What gear ratio and tire size you...

    Gen3 hemi tkx swap

The longer 833 input shaft uses the inner pilot hole of the early engine crank. Too long for gen 3 hemi. The Tremec with the Ford short shaft uses the outer crank register for pilot bushing or bearing on mopar similar to Ford. Could the Ford TKX have gotten the shorter GM shaft? Just quickly...

    Gen3 hemi tkx swap

That's a big difference. The Quick Time probably has a thicker engine plate where the aluminum bell has a thinner one also. A thicker flywheel would help disk but not pilot. And I would think that's not an option. It's the adapter flywheel not OEM right?

Help me decide on a floor jack

Bought a professional series Napa floor jack many years ago. Cringed as I dragged it through gravel over the years. Very heavy. Was bummed when it started bleeding off. When I get around to it I will see if I can get parts. Not being a shop that uses it every day I am disappointed it did not...

    Gen3 hemi tkx swap

I marked the area with a sharpie and made clearance with a hammer and dolly. I could have made it a little nicer. But no hole.

    Gen3 hemi tkx swap

I like it. Clean. Nice to not worry about something going over the top. Advantage of no torsion bars. Is the final position a little higher? Are you using a cable speedo?

    Gen3 hemi tkx swap

When I mocked my TKX up I used measurements from the 833. The TKX is almost the same length. I measured from the floor to the centerline of the tail shaft as well as the center of the tail shaft to the trans tunnel. I am within an 1/8" of where the tail shaft centerline was originally. It does...

    Gen3 hemi tkx swap

Should be smooth sailing now. Since the torsion bars are not being used. The floor mods for TKX will be easy. I am thinking about adding the starter snout support in my bell.

    Anyone know about International Scouts???

What about the newer scout? Power steering, Dana 44 axles, automatic option heavier spring pivot points and frame. They used the 727 transmission so easy to transplant a mopar engine. I put a 440 in one many years ago. The Saginaw power steering brackets on the 440 went well with the Saginaw...

So the box is still close to the engine. How is the clearance on the header?

    440/Schumacher/Borgeson

Looks like it was dropped or something. That bites. Hoping for positive review. I am pondering going the Borgeson route. I have TTI headers. How did the box bolt up? Should be great clearance with the Schumacher headers?

Borgeson steering box B engine TTI 1 3/4 long tube header fitment?

Anyone running the borgeson steering box with a B engine and TTI 1 3/4 long tube headers? Called TTI and they said they have not test fitted that combo. The TTI headers fit factory power steering on the B engine but not RB. The Borgeson is smaller but proportioned differently. I have seen posts...

    440/Schumacher/Borgeson

Think it was a pickup mount. Some application has a mount similar to the a body but a little thicker. Not sure of the bolt spread? Is there room to make like a 1/4" square plate that bolts to the K with another set of holes to set the mount up and down? It looks like your mount goes forward...

    440/Schumacher/Borgeson

Do the pickups use a biscuit mount similar to the a body but thicker? May be able to use that mount with less shims? Or maybe non at all. Or can a offset plate/ shim be bolted to the K so the mount can sit vertical?

Is anyone running the borgeson box with a DC style K and spool mounts?

    Gen3 hemi tkx swap

Nice progress. The only thing I would add is to get the flywheel for a reference verification before finalizing starter location. Sometimes starter depth also varies. Elimination of the torsion bars is a nice way to not have to worry about the top part of the torsion bar cross member being...

Big Block Low Deck engine install in 68 Dart

Definitely simpler running small blocks. But glad everyone doesn't take the easy route. LOL Installing 451 in my 68 Dart car with TTI 1 3/4 headers. Thanks for posting lessons learned on install. Car looks good. Also running the car on a stand before install is a bonus.

    Advice needed on manifold repair

If I had a lot of spare time I may weld it up for practice. Regardless of how it turned out I would scrap it when I was done. I would not run it on any car.

Does anyone like 4 door A body mopes?

65brdodge's car is the way to build a four door. Have the extra doors to load groceries and extra doors for people to look at as it passes them at the drag strip. Always a win. I saw a factory 427 ford Galaxy 4 door at a car collection. Somehow the engine trans combo kinda puts blinders on the...

expert help needed (my first post)

Interesting thread. Some times the most important lessons in life are the most expensive. Go big block. More lessons and more expense. That's what I am doing. I have no intent on selling though. And if I stayed 340 I would likely still be driving my car.LOL

    What SWAY BAR to choose

I do not have pics when I had the Hotchkis bar mocked up under car. Everything was taken apart for powder coating. I may order parts and assemble soon. I do think you can just install the bar and keep your lowers and brake assembly as is if using this bar. You may be able to go on the website...

    What SWAY BAR to choose

Running the Hotchkis sway bar on mine. It Definitely gives the resto mod vibe. Sits slightly lower than the k frame and it's huge due to being hollow. The bracketry is nice. I trimmed the outboard tabs off control arms and welded the inner ones supplied with the bar. I think the style given...
