I Need Engine Experts! 340 Roller Lifter and Pushrod Issue

Run the oil pump with a drill while rolling the motor over with a ratchet/socket. The lifters will oil up if you roll it around several rotations, which is pretty easy with the plugs out. Then check your push rod length as soon as they pump up. You really only need 2 that are linked together to...

I Need Engine Experts! 340 Roller Lifter and Pushrod Issue

Morel hydraulic roller lifters, which are what you have in there, are the best hydro rollers you can use in a SB Mopar. The oil band is lower than others, so the band stays in the bore. The ones in my 273 clear just fine, but my saving grace is I used late 80's 302 heads, which have bigger push...

Timing Chain Cover crankshaft opening is the wrong size

Take your new timing cover to the auto parts store with you when you buy the seal. That way you can be sure it fits with one trip. The new timing cover you have is WAY better than the old ones, no matter where the timing marks fall. If the front seal ever goes bad again, you only have to remove...

rocker shafts installed backwards... long read. but pics!

He said in post #4 that the engine has hollow push rods. I'd say his shafts and rockers are just fine because they were oiling thru the push rods. It will obviously have the AMC style lifters. It's been decades since Mopar and AMC lifters were different. They all have the hole in the plunger now.

rocker shafts installed backwards... long read. but pics!

Yeah, just do them one at a time and it will be fine.

rocker shafts installed backwards... long read. but pics!

While you have the shafts out swapping them, check the bottoms to see if they are worn. They really shouldn't be since they were getting oil. Unless the bottoms of the shafts and rockers are worn, I'd just put them back in right and send em! If your intake is still off, be sure to put thread...

rocker shafts installed backwards... long read. but pics!

It couldn't hurt it to take em off and swap just the shafts side to side. Lay some clean paper towels down to lay them on when you take them off. Lay them like they are oriented on the motor now, remove the bolts from the shafts and gently slide the shafts out while leaving the rocker arms...

    Cheap 318 performance mods.

I remember a thread where a guy asked how to de-tune a 360, and a lot of people told him to junk it and buy a 318. At least they're consistent!

Paint it, Clear it or Let It Rip?

Thanks! I bought that intake for a plan B if the 5.9 Magnum MPFI gives me too much grief when I put it in my 88 D100.

Paint it, Clear it or Let It Rip?

Did you have to hone the holes out in the Magnum bolt pattern to get the plugs knocked in? I bought one of those intakes a while back when someone had them on sale cheap. I noticed that the plugs seemed to be too big for the holes, is why I asked. You did a good job on the paint...

Paint it, Clear it or Let It Rip?

Yep, on the 273 that I just built for my 65 Barracuda, I had to work the top of the intake runners over pretty good so the valve covers would fit right. My valve covers weren't even close to fitting because the block was decked to get it square, plus the heads were cut a good bit too because...

Paint it, Clear it or Let It Rip?

Check to see if your valve covers still fit with the new intake before you paint it. You may have to clearance one or the other.

My 273 turned out to be a 318...what did I buy?

I'm pretty sure @memike made a heat shield for his master cylinder on Victoria. Maybe he will chime in with a pic.

Timing chain set for the street/driver?

I've had good luck out of the Edelbrock double roller chains. I replaced the fuel pump gasket on my 360 in the 71 Challenger, and checked the chain while the pump was out. Has about 10K miles on it since it went in in 95....still tight. Motor has the Mopar Performance 761 cam in it and gets the...

    Intake Manifold Bolt size(s)

Factory intake bolts all have captive washers on them and are all the same length. Just a bit shorter than 2". If you're buying new bolts, just get some that are 1 3/4 not counting the bolt head and use flat washers on them. Use thread sealer on every bolt! Every one of them thread into areas...

    Hydraulic Lifter Adjustment

Unless you need adjustable rocker arms, why not swap them to a factory non adjustable rocker setup and forget it? Save the 273 adjustable stuff for later on if you build something with a solid cam.

    Doug's headers and mini-starters

You can take that adapter off the top of the solenoid and bolt your wire straight up there if the starter you got is like all that I've seen. I'm sorry that I steered you wrong and got your hopes up on the Hemi starter. It ain't gonna fit my 273 either, because my block has that same curve in...

    Doug's headers and mini-starters

Well, shoot! I was hoping the Hemi starter would fit and work. I need to go look at my 273 block and see if it has that same curved place in it. Hopefully you can make that Magnum starter live happy in the space.

    Doug's headers and mini-starters

I went out and looked at one of my small block bellhousings and the top hole for the starter is a blind hole. And, like you said, it goes back into the area where the Z bar bracket bolts to the bell. If the top bolt hole in the hemi starter is the one that needs to be drilled out.....I'll drill...

    Doug's headers and mini-starters

Bob....maybe the gentleman I tagged below can shed some light on using the newer starter. @mopardude318 When one uses the 2005 5.7 Hemi straight drive starter on an LA or big block, which hole in the new starter needs to be drilled out because it's threaded? Top or bottom? Thanks in advance.
  25. JDMopar

    Doug's headers and mini-starters

Hope it works out. As long as you've got room on the backside of the bellhousing for a bolt head, you could drill it out to the same size as the unthreaded hole in the starter and put the bolt in bassakwards from what it's always been. I may do that to my bellhousing on my Barracuda as well. I...

    Question on parts value

Your ad is well written and has great descriptions with full disclosure of sale reasons. I think the price is fair for the quality of the parts you have listed. The lack of interest may be due to the limited number of people who want a full boogie motor like that nowadays. Also, the fact that...

    Doug's headers and mini-starters

I checked a while back at Auto Zone and NAPA locally, and they both said they can get me a reman'd one. Guess I'd better get it while the gettin's good...lol.

    Doug's headers and mini-starters

    That's strange, since a starter off a 727 and a 833 bellhousing will interchange.

    Doug's headers and mini-starters

It's supposed to work in a small block bellhousing/727/904, so it should fit a big block the same way. The only mod you supposedly have to make is drilling out one mount hole on the starter. One of the mount bolts on it has a bolt that comes in from the rear on it's stock Gen 3 Hemi...

    Doug's headers and mini-starters

I have not tried it yet because I'm not that far along, but someone on here who's opinion I value says a starter from a 2005 Dodge pickup, 5.7 Hemi, straight drive fits nicely with headers. I'm putting Doug's D450 headers on my 65 Barracuda. There ain't room to cuss a cat in early A engine bays...
