340 Oil Priming Question First Start

Alright, here's what the oiling holes look like on the shaft..... When viewing the assembly from the front of the engine, the hole with the banana groove is pointing slightly towards the outboard side of the engine since it is not centered. The banana groove is especially important here with...

340 Oil Priming Question First Start

Those shafts look like they are from a stamped steel set up. You can tell by the large oiling holes. Adjustable 273 rockers have 2 oiling holes per rocker on the shaft. One near the loaded side of the rocker base (Should have a banana groove, but they all don't) and one to feed the rocker...

340 Oil Priming Question First Start

And OP, don't forget that after the 90* btdc on #1 compression, you have to go all the way around and stop at 20* ATDC on the 2nd time around.

What kind of fuel do you run?

My mild build 340 turned out to have 175 psi cranking pressure. That's with reducing the compression height of the pistons, and a .050 head gasket. Does that mean I'm S.O.L? Pistons are .018 out of the hole and the heads cc out at around 70.

How many of you grease your own trailer axles?

I agree. My thoughts.......Most semis have a great maintenance schedule and most of the small stuff would be caught before it became big stuff. If folks can't keep their bearings greased, they would probably miss a weeping seal. Hit a rock, the sight glass breaks unknowingly.....stranded.

How many of you grease your own trailer axles?

I'd be worried about failure. Normal styles can tolerate a little misuse as long as you check them at the beginning of the season. If you lose a seal in an oil bath.....You've got nothing. I suspect that we wouldn't get the same quality set up that you'd see on a semi. I'd carry a spare hub...

A QUICK QUESTION ABOUT MANIFOLD VACUUM

Well, I cleaned the hell out of it and blew out all of the passages and installed a new kit and adjusted it to the OE specs. It actually looked really good when I first received it. It was a late 70's take off from a Barracuda and then shelved. No evidence of dried fuel or varnish. LOL...It...

340 Oil Priming Question First Start

@340inabbody ........ The passenger side rockers get oil when the balancer mark is 90* BTDC on the #1 compression stroke. Now, rotate the crank past the TDC mark all the way around and stop when the mark is 20* ATDC. This location will oil the Drivers side.(Technically this would be 20* ATDC...

340 Oil Priming Question First Start

Bad advice @Dan the man .....The engine doesn't have to spin to get oil to the top end. You only have to find the sweet spots and run the drill. Oil will pour out of the rockers. @340inabbody ....Hang on, I'll look up the crank positions I used.
