Been a lovely day today and nice breeze. Wife is in her glory out in the garden. Will get her some Swiss Chalet for supper. Went out to the car show last night and had a great turnout. Got there at 5 and came home at 7. Have a great evening

    Speedometer jumping around help

Try greasing the cable. Friction is grabbing it and the end/ends that are squared off that drive the cable/speedometer are skipping in their prospective sockets. If that don’t work new cable and drive sockets, as in new Speedo and gear.

Can someone explain this port please

The crossover allows exhaust to pass through to the other side when the heat riser is closed. It also heats the choke spring and keeps the carb from icing up under certain conditions. If you don't need those features, sure, block it off. A metal intake gasket will do the job.

Can someone explain this port please

So now I understand the crossover port, but is it ok to block it off? And will a gasket just like in this picture do the job?

    timing tape glue

I used clear engine enamel on mine 14 years ago. It never came loose but it yellowed and made it difficult to see the marks. Better to scribe your marks thru the tape and then take it off.
