Stock cam, heavily ported head, stock valves. I may have been running a slant 2bbl Holley at the time. No power steering, not running the dealer installed AC.
70 with the AC on was 16.7.
I did a few Bonzi runs in my day Naples, to Nashville and back in the 198 Duster. 82mph with 3:23's (it came new with those) and the 3 speed manual. 22mpg.
Check with Music City Mopar Club. They might know someone who has slant stuff. My next door neighbor has one in a van that I am going to probably buy. But I think I want the motor etc. Might want to do a cast crank motor for my Duster.
Tony Defeo (Whitepunk on Nitro) he might have something...
800 cfm was the smaller TQ. (maybe a Carter fib on the size) A properly tuned air valve on the secondaries will give all the air the engine demands. Some 360's came with an 850cfm. IIRC the Mopar Q-jets were 725 to 750. Triple boosters on the primaries. I pulled a nice one off a 318 van. It did...
Back in the day my Formula S got 14mpg combined with 3:23's. It was a 511"RB. The trick is 2bbl's get better MPG. Mine had 3 of them! I suggest going that route with yours.
Combined MPG = 7 in the city, 7 on the highway :p
I want to go EFI/turbo eventually. Lighter reciprocating assembly, possibly a lighter block too. The cast crank should handle a turbo. Narrow the rod ends so I don't have to buy K1 rods.
600cfm is kind of large. Whatever happened to the 390 Holley's?
I used to run consistent 10.58's in the 1/8th with 3 on the tree, 198 open 3:23's, M-1 intake 318 BB or a Holley 2bbl off a slant. Stock valves and cam, Hooker headers with a H pipe crossover duals out the back, with Superior...
Cast crank engines have narrower rod journals don't they? I was wanting to pull the rods out of my '72 198 to use that engine for the lighter crank, and if I remember right lighter block.
I am eyeing my neighbor's '80 or '81 van. A friend used to own that van and I knew that van when it was...
Infrared gun told me #4 was pumping @ambient temperature. I had drilled out a jets on a BBD which mad it pig rich on the dyno. I may have wiped the rings on my low mileage 198. It has been sitting since 2009. Driving over the road left me no time to play with it. When I came off the road it was...
To my knowledge Offy never built a dual plane. The 360* is the designation for a single plane. IIRC all of their V8 intakes were marked 360*.
I have one sitting on the top of my 360 in my work van. It has the 318 sized ports as the manifold I wanted was 340/360 specific. It ran fine with a Comp...
240 Ford inline 6 had the valve seals laying in the bottom of the head. (claimed 9.2:1 factory compression) Tons of carbon in the chambers. 100K on it. Smoked bad, had tons of compression due to the clumps of carbon that made the chambers smaller. Tons of crap on the pistons too. Burned a lot...
I agree light sludge. Diesel oil is high in detergents. I run that in my cars. Rotella semi-synthetic. Had the intake off my '97 Lesabre a couple of weeks ago. I could see the valve stems. Clean like new. 230K+ on it. Really clean every where else.
