    318LA build

Along that line, Dan I found another one of those Florida car deals on marketplace over the holiday weekend, and thought of you. It's not an A body, but a 91 dodge Dakota standard cab, short bed, 318 v8. I don't want to hijack the thread, so pm if interested and I will pass along the information

    318LA build

I have used that summit cam on a stock '86 318 rebuild.i bought it mostly due to good pricing, in addition to a 600 summit carb, performer intake, and headers, original 302 heads, but fwiw, I was disappointed in it below 3000 rpm. I found the off the shelf comp xe250 to be the better performer...

    what piston?

True that, but since no other information is given to previous block work, it is a starting point. In fact, no other requirement given except for, a street engine, 4.100 bore, standard stroke. One other nice thing about those pistons are their lightweight, lighter than the stock 340 pistons...

    what piston?

For a street piston, these may work well for you. Hypereutectic with a deck height of 1.840 will put you .018 above deck, which will help with your open chamber heads. Relatively inexpensive at $390 amazon/$409 cnc motorsports. Negative is the thicker 5/64th ring pack, but what your 340...

    what piston?

I would suggest the Mahle power pak with their 1mm ring set, but I do not believe that they have a 340 piston. 060 over

    1973 360

Every once in a blue moon I see something in good condition, and low mileage like that come up for sale here in Florida. Probably due to the high amount of senior citizens down here who give up driving and park them in their garages. Although far from Dan's hometown. It looks in good enough...

    W2 intake manifolds pics

I have been recently dealing with Mike at B3 from recommendations I saw here on FABO, and have been impressed with his knowledge, and more importantly, his attitude. He has been a real help and a pleasure to work with. Sorry, not trying to hijack the post.

    W2 intake manifolds pics

I hear ya, a head that flowed 260 cfm ootb, and the porting potential into the 300 would be a one stop shop head for both the street and the strip. Besides the price, I remember not wanting to deal with the rocker shaft blocks when they came out. Of course there wasn't a FABO around back then...

    340 piston

A good street piston none the less and inexpensive at cnc motorsports. Most forged pistons have gone the 1/16th ring package or smaller. Maybe some older trw type pistons available in the classified section with the thicker ring package

How would you rebuild this 318?

I don't think you will find a stroker kit for a 318 anywhere near $1500. With both the 340 and 360 kits you can find inexpensive ones with hypereutectic pistons and cast cranks. I have never found those hypereutectic stroker kits available for the 318. Many 318 stroker use the quality/expensive...

How would you rebuild this 318?

You have a good collection of parts already for a healthy 318. If it turns out to be a bad rod I would just eagle sir or summit rod it along with some kb167 and a. 028 head gasket to get the compression up a bit for the healthier cam you are running. If it needs to be bored, and the crankshaft...

    Oil additives

Lake Speed Jr. comes across as a snake oil salesman in that video, yet his intent is the exact opposite I am getting ready to break in a flat tappet camshaft and was going to post a question here about using Vizard's Oil Extreme for the break-in. After watching that video, I think I will save...

    318 with a new 4” crankshaft.

If you have a 392, then i would say follow your passion. Do the people selling the stroker kit for $1500 also sell a balanced version of that kit? It would probably cost a bit more, but it would eliminate the need for a machine shop. Although it seems like all you need to get the 318 going now...

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

Dan was talking about going to see some 318 car last week an hour away with air conditioning, but haven't heard if he came home with it yet, but I hope he did!

    318 with a new 4” crankshaft.

Does KB still make hypereutectic pistons for that combo? I think if they still do they would use the less desirable thicker 5/64th size rings Having done a stoker build on a 340, I would buy the kit instead of piecemeal like I did. Maybe check out protocol tom in the classifieds. Get the...

    360 Cam suggestions

Hey just send it, I did the wallace dynamic compression ratio calculator with your 11 to 1 compression ratio and the aforementioned cam I suggested above, which gives you 197.20 cylinder pressure, probably a little too high for comfort even with the speedmaster heads, so I am removing my...

    340 motor mount orientation

Don't the mounting brackets go behind the ears on the driver's side, and in front of the ears on the passenger side. The photo also shows the passenger side behind the block ears

    360 Cam suggestions

This is a pretty good all around dd/performance cam for a 360. Good lift to duration, especially with your speedmasters heads and a 1.6 rocker, if that is what you have. A little wide, but good vacuum, street manners, etc.

    Trick flow harmonic balancer

Thanks for that link, I was holding off asking until I determined if it would be needed. My build which typically go zen like has been going off the rails a bit today mostly due to a not so smart 340 block marketplace purchase by me with issues and trying a new machine shop which left me with...

    Trick flow harmonic balancer

That was my thought as I was tightening the balancer up as it got closer, but I think it should be good as is. I have rotated it and the balancer is pretty true and does not get any closer
