Massive caster variance Side to side

FWIW...I have the bubble gauge as shown above but instead of Longacre Racing on it, mine says Joe's Racing Products. Same gauge! I used several heavy thick plastic garbage bags folded over a few times as my turning plates. (They worked well as you could turn my manual steer avatar car with...

Cost for labor on stroker build?

Big fan of strokers! Spend the coin - you would not regret it. The torque they make is incredible!! Can't really use it on the street as it's just a smoke show if you hammer it. But they are quite the hoot for sure. As for cost, aside from the crank/rods/pistons, they are no different...

Small block headers: worst to best fitting. List your experience.

Avatar car has the 5204 Hookers. 1-3/4" tube and spark plug access is direct and very simple for all of them. As mentioned, they can challenge you to get them on but once on, they fit well. Car is street-driven some but not a daily driver so ground clearance has not been an issue.

Rewire 67 Dart GT - need recommendations - what's best?

I think you are correct. He makes a lot of harnesses but not all. Just have to call and ask him. Good guy to talk with!

Rewire 67 Dart GT - need recommendations - what's best?

I 2nd Evans Wiring Harnesses. I've said it before and will repeat it that if he makes it, this is the place to go. His engine harness for my 71 Demon was 100% spot on to the original. And you have your choice of electronic ignition or not. I've used his stuff on others and had the same...

    Turning torque for engine

You may have more room than you think. I had something like 3-1/4" from the water pump snout to the back of my Champion radiator on the avatar. I wasn't sure what I was going to do given such a small amount of space. One thing in your favor is the water pump snout does not fit up against the...

Getting fed up of high-perf , being happy with less

I'm that guy described above that built the car he wanted in his teens but couldn't afford back then. Yep, that's the avatar. Only gripe is the door bars make it hard to get in and out of but so long as I can, it's a riot to drive and I really enjoy it. If I do get to where the door bars...

oil filters what do u use and why

Something to think about: the OEM's do all of their development and testing using their own branded filters. So the relief valve settings, case thickness, filtration needs, etc are all correct for the engines the filters go on. Aftermarket filters do not get that luxury. The video portrays...

    Transmission cooler for drag racing

I run a Derale trans cooler in the avatar. 8" converter that stalls at 5000 rpm. At the track, it leaves the line at about 160F and hits 180F at the end of the track (1/4 mile). This Derale unit has its own electric fan so I flip it on after I cross the line. Trans is back to 160F by the...

    Turning torque for engine

As dusterbing mentions above, are you SURE the water pump is turning the correct direction? We haven't seen a shot of the accessory drive system yet but some serpentine systems may require a reverse direction water pump. Had to ask!!

    Turning torque for engine

My 408 avatar car is street driven and does not overheat with its 2 electric puller fans and Champion alum radiator. And I live about 90 min north of him in Florida. BUT...I do not have AC. So it is possible to make this setup work (at least w/o AC). We're all going to learn something when...

    The 72 Demon Follies....

Well, a few more months have gone by so I thought it time for a brief update. There was no racing in February at Gainesville due to the GatorNats and some other races. In March, we took the car up for the monthly brackets. Got there on time, unloaded, tech'd, waiting by the trailer for the...

    Vapor lock- additive?

I solve the shutoff/hot soak/fuel boil/won't restart issue with a pretty basic solution. To shut the car off, I first turn the fuel pump off and let the engine empty the carb until it stalls (maybe 30 seconds or so). With no fuel in the bowls, you get no vapor/boiling during the hot soak and...

    Who would have ever thought

Guess I just had low expectations. I built the avatar (408) street/strip car with a target of 11.30. After a bunch of tuning, I got it from its initial pass at 11.87 to now it's gone [email protected]. And I've been happy with that! (OK, ok...now I want to see a 10.9x out of it but that may never...

New carb finally arrived, with pic

Don - my $0.02.... On my 408, I have an old Diamondback/Holley 850 carb. I've played around with jets and have been running 81/87's for some time now (has a power valve in the front). I recently had a thread going looking at my plugs and my overall conclusion from the discussion, as well as...

    Starter heat issue?

My avatar has a 408 with a mini-starter (I assume that is a mini-starter you have.) The Hooker SuperComp headers (1-3/4") run fairly close to it. This is its 3rd summer and so far, no issues. I'd run it as is if that's a mini-starter. As for the pinion gear hanging up, you want to get that...
