I am sick of dealing with headers, i am no longer concerned about losing some HP. Which Big block exhaust manifolds will fit in a 71 duster with a B motor? Are they hard to come by?
Just my opinion, if you are building a nothing motor just to have 512 cubic inch and want to run cast heads thats one thing. But to get any type of HP you are going to need a head like the trick flow with at least a 240 or the 270 cc intake runner. A bullshit EDDY RPM performer head for an oval...
Those heads are small i have a set on my 426 low deck. they only have a 220 cc intake runner. Go with the TFS 240 heads you will be further ahead. i made 525 hp and 552 tq with rpm performer heads and dual plane intake. All out of the box.
So if all you're going to be highway driving is 30 miles each way, i would go to a 3.73 gear. The car will burn the tires hard and still be under 3000 rpm at 60-65 mph. But it's your car decide what you're doing with it. I love the 3.73 gears in mine, perfect for my combo.
Interesting to see that the 451 build used a single plane intake and solid lifter cam similar to mine and it fell on its face at 5700 as well, and i am running a dual plane and solid lifter cam with a point less compression and un-ported heads.
My 426 B motor makes 525 hp and 552 TQ. 10.0-1 compression Eddy rpm performer heads and intake. Lunati solid lifter flat tappet cam. .544/.566 with .243/[email protected] pump gas, 750 AED hom carb. 3500 stall 3.73 gears, nice street car.
Thats a short tire. I have 3.55 gears in my 80 vette with a 255/60/15. and they are nice with 350 hp and 400 tq. car accelerates and drives well. 60mph is around 3100 rpm. 100 mph is 4500 rpm.
71 duster, 426 low deck, 383 with 440 crank. 525 hp. Solid cam 32 total timing in by 3000 rpm. 22" smiths aluminum rad, 3" tanks with small shroud. Aluminum heads and intake and water pump 18" nylon 90 degree mechanical fan. Flo-kooler high flow pump, 180 high flow T stat, 1 bottle water wetter...
We built my 383/426 stroker with Diamond flat tops, I am either at zero deck, or .005 down. With the stock eddy Quench rpm performer heads we are 9.98-1 compression.
At the time i built my 426 low deck the 240 heads were not out yet. I wonder how much more power they would provide over the Eddy rpm performer heads with no other changes.
Can you tell us what the hp rating of this 440 is going to be, is this a race car or a street car? You may be better off building a low deck big block.
Any idea of the HP rating of this motor? You're looking at a 1-7/8" to 2" primary tube header. The raised ports will cause some fitment issues i am thinking.
Depending on the camshaft you are going to run, will determine how much valve spring open pressure you will have, just make sure you buy a good quality rocker arm that can handle the abuse and harmonics. Cams now, have more aggressive ramps, and they slam those vales open and closed at a violent...
Never had a rocker failure ever in my life because i spend good money on quality parts. Too many times guys buy cheap offshore junk parts to fit their BUDGET, then wonder why they break. On my 1000hp BBC with nitrous i had Crane gold race rockers and a stud girdle. At that point i should have...
I have rpm performer heads on my 426 low deck, 383 block with a 440 crank. They only have a 220 cc runner. I made 525 hp and 552 tq. better off buying a better head right off the get go.
I will say around 450 HP and 475 tq. That 2" header is pretty big for what you have now, a 1-3/4 to 1-7/8 would of been better. I had a 2" header on a 468 BBC that made 700 hp on the motor and 1006 hp on Nitrous.
383 block 440 steel crank= 426 low deck. 9.98-1 compression with EDDY rpm performer heads out of the box. RPM Performer intake. TTI 1-3/4 headers. Lunati solid lifter cam .544/.566 with .243/[email protected] AED 750 HOM carb. 32 total timing in by 3000 rpm. TCI 3500 stall flashes to 4000 with all the...
Put an Eddy RPM performer dual plane on it. I have one on my big block, i am making 525 hp and 552 tq. I shift at 6300 go through the top end at around 5300 rpm. 275/60/15 drag radial with a 3.73 gear.
Stay with what you have the 850 will be fine.Being this is a street car, you will have better throttle response and drivability. The 950 might show a bit more top end power at the track, but will be doggy on the street. with a 31" tall tire and 4.56 gears you should go through the top end at...
