Anyone Have A Machine Shop They Recommend Near Indianapolis?

Doesn't sound outrageous, although prices seem to vary from one part of the country to the other. Just a thought- check with local construction/ag dealers (or marine dealers too, for that matter) to see who handles their machine work. There's a lot of local shops who don't really advertise...

    Power steering pump question

Agreed. Although I've never personally experienced this, excess hydraulic backpressure is the only thing I can think of that would make the pump completely stop turning at each end of the steering's travel; which to me would indicate that the relief system is not functioning- either a...

Yup, exactly as I said. V8 has the lower hose on the left.

    904 identification

Please post the pics you were sent, should make it fairly easy to discern between a small block and a slant 6. Double check the number, it is stamped on a pad just above the driver's side pan rail- it should (but not always) start in "PK", then xxxxxxx. This will give us year and model info.

Fan not centered with center of radiator

No, early V8s ('69 and earlier) had the lower radiator fitting on the left. In 1970 and later it moved to the right.

Fan not centered with center of radiator

Yes, that is a common issue that I have read about multiple times here, seems most members have had to have the brackets rewelded on Champion radiators.

Fan not centered with center of radiator

I seriously hope you don't intend to run your fan setup that way. Unless it's a trick of the camera, looks like you've got next to zero clearance between the fan clutch and the radiator. Throw in a bit of engine movement and you'll bore a hole right into that shiny new aluminum radiator.

Fan not centered with center of radiator

Nope. They keep the same offset to the right. It is TIGHT on the right side. They had to move the steering box to a frame rail mount (no room for it on the K frame) and run a remote oil filter setup on the small blocks to make room for everything. Then try throwing clutch linkage in there...

Best Carter 4 Barrel Carburetor for a stock 273?

Carter only? 500 cfm Competition Series. Next up would be a stock 340 AVS, or the 600/625 C.S., especially if you're going to run anything more than a stock cam. Eddy and Holley would give you more and newer choices. Good Carter cores are getting harder to find.

    Fuel pump eccentric problem

Depends on the original application of the cupped washer- I know of at least 3 different depths that were used. Deepest was on the LA 318/360 roller cam engines. They were the deepest because they used a long snout cam and no fuel pump eccentric. Middle depth is a "normal" LA motor with long...

    73 duster jack handle mounting

This is a '75 Swinger, but it should be the same as your Duster. Slide the jack handle through the loop on the spring, then slide it into the loop welded to the trunk floor. The lug wrench end then sits in the notch of the lower jack saddle with the wrench end pointed up. Then sit the jack in...

Check the classifieds on this site. For instance: [FOR SALE] - Kelsey Hayes SBP Brake package Nothing fits like factory stuff. Won't fit some early non-disc wheels, but will fit your factory '72 sbp wheels.

    Tightness of Seat Belt Bolts?

    Carb Advice

Sounds like your throttle shafts are worn out and need to be rebushed- is there any up-and-down or back-and-forth movement to the shafts? Worn throttle shafts would explain the fuel drips, and when running is just a big vacuum leak- which may be part of your idle issues. Instead of replacing...

    Tightness of Seat Belt Bolts?

Seat belts use "shoulder bolts". The belt bracket fits to the shoulder, so the bolt gets tightened all the way and the belt can still pivot. The shoulder length varies, since some points get 2 belts attached to the bolt (center passenger position in the rear, for example). So any bolts you...

The risers on there look like they're, what, 3-4" tall? Looks like it would be easy enough to unbolt the risers from the sliders and attach something like 2" angle in place of them, drilled to the original floor holes, and gain yourself a couple inches of headroom. (Borrowed pictures, so...

    squeaky belt(s)

Yes, they could be too loose. They need to have about 1/2" deflection. If they're tight enough and still squeal, replace 'em (with GOOD belts- cheapos can squeal when brand new...). Belt dressing is just a temporary band-aid.
