At idle a 340 sounds like rocks rattling inside a metal drum and when you wind them out they have a loud and constant metallic sound. Hard to put into words obviously but I bet someone out there knows what I'm talking about.
They'll run forever. My go-to back in the era when a Fury or Belvedere was an affordable used car. 100k+ miles would have scared me away from a Ford or Chevy but not that engine. I never did anything but change the oil, plugs and wires and drive them. Pulled the car up to high speeds very...
You might be surprised it's fun to have another little car and like some others say save the wear and tear on your Duster. I'm driving a '95 Tercel 5 sp that gets a consistent 39.5 mpg and it has taken away a lot of stress because it goes almost 400 miles on $32, that's a lot of driving. Also...
Just my $.02, do the math, mpg, miles you drive, how much you'd spend on changes and the effort it would take, and see if you'd really be saving much. Like others said, make sure the engine is in proper tune.
Question from a non-tech...if all the pistons are lighter, wouldn't they still be equal weights and then everything would still be in balance? Or are there variations and that's why the rotating assembly needs to be rebalanced? Could someone explain it to me? Thanks in advance.
The guys who work on my car said it was cracked. They are honest and have been in business for years. But I will question them further. Thanks for the offer to help me with the install, that would be awesome.
My '65 273 non-commando has a cracked head. My mechanic says he told me about this 3 years ago, I know he did not, but that's beside the point. Stop-leak is holding for now. What would you guys do? I won't be doing the work myself. Thanks for any imput.
Thank you for letting us know how you made out, I for one greatly appreciate it when folks give a follow up on their question, sometimes we are left wondering...
Don't worry, probably one of the aforementioned areas....as you noticed, a couple suggestions were made for comic effect, since you are a noobie but that means they like you.
This person had a simple question and you came off as being better than them. Even though later they said they appreciated your help.
This has turned into one of the worst threads I've seen. You guys have been going back and forth for 10 days. Kill this thread.
Check to see that the fan was not installed backwards. This happened to me. After I figured out the problem, no more overheating, and I don't have a shroud.
Congrats Fireman on a great find and welcome to the site! Good advice from 2 Darts, I would add that upgrading to electronic ignition will give you lots of benefits, and it's cheap.
