Hemi Swapping a perfectly good 70 Duster

One more piece of the puzzle knocked out. Whipped up a catch can bracket last night. I wanted to hide this somewhere badly, but it also needs to be serviceable so here it is. The bracket is made from a piece of 2" flat bar whittled into something that doesn't look like flat bar.

'70 Dart 392 Project; what direction?

I assume the other side of the capacitor is grounded. I believe the factory harness had something like this. I trashed them. It's probably less about the coils seeing noise and more about the coils creating noise. The only electronic device on my car is the ECU and I've never had any weird...

Does that engine have a harness? My coils have 3 pins on them, but only two wires going to them. I don't know what the extra pin is for. Since I cut down a factory harness, I really never paid any attention to it until now. Rock auto shows the same part number for coils between non-vvt and vvt...

'70 Dart 392 Project; what direction?

The coils only need a power wire and the signal wire. It's like having 8 old school canister coils. You may want to confirm their harness isn't made to be used with their smart coils.

'70 Dart 392 Project; what direction?

22 pins won't be enough for the engine. Mine is a 47 pin and I'm using 42 of them. Now, I am overkill on the power for the coils and injectors. I ran an individual power wire for right bank injectors, right bank coils, left bank injectors, left bank coils. You could just use one power feed for...

Nice! I didn't know Ballenger had those. I've purchased from them in the past. They have a nice selection of things that would otherwise be hard to find. I think I was able to find the crank and cam pinouts online by searching. If you don't already have them, you will need ignitors for your...

'70 Dart 392 Project; what direction?

If you are using a megasquirt, all you need factory connectors for are the cam/crank sensors, and the coils. Everything else is fairly universal/GM style. I cut up a factory harness and made my own reusing whatever I could, but ran new circuits for TPS, IAC, IAT, MAP, and Coolant. I used an...

Hemi Swapping a perfectly good 70 Duster

Now to get the AC back up and running. It's HOT! I think I have my hose routing figured out, so I just need to order some fittings and hose to get it done. I'm planning on going to autocross on 6/23, so that gives me a week and half to get that done and also make my catch can bracket so I can...

Ok throttle cable is fixed and I get 100% throttle. It also moves easier. Maybe it was in a slight bind before. More driving and tuning and all I have to say is this MFer scoots!!!! I found the rev limiter as expected. The cam really turns on around 3500 and doesn’t stop before my limiter. As...

Could always throw a gear vendors on the 727 later if you change your mind about OD. Those things are kinda spendy though.

Hemi Swapping a perfectly good 70 Duster

I had to force myself to come home with it after I realized I was out for a while and should likely go home and check stuff over. No oil or coolant drips! I may be more happy about no oil drips than the new exhaust note! Hahaha. The good news is, the winter rarely shuts me down from driving...

Got the exhaust installed and messed with the cranking and idle fueling. It seems pretty decent, but will definitely need more tweaking. It’s so hot this time of year the water temperature never gets below 75 degrees even after sitting a day. I decided to try the auto tune function in tuner...

Hemi Swapping a perfectly good 70 Duster

With the exception of the catch can and some AC lines (which won't be visible), the engine compartment is pretty much done. I painted the HEMI badging on the coil covers with the same paint that's on the exterior of the car. I was having trouble deciding which color to go with, but a good friend...

Could always just throw a 2.76 gear in it and roll! Honestly, that's likely what I would do if I were to put that many miles on the car even with the OD. 75mph at 1800RPM, yes please.

Man, the Power Tour has always been a bucket list item for me. It passed through the city I live in about 10 years ago but my car was in pieces. I always have hope that it will head back south again. For the last several years, the drive to get to it would be longer than the actual tour. I have...

My gates hose clamps came in Saturday so I was able to get the heater hoses and power steering suction line completed and get fluids topped off. I ran the car on and off for about an hour until my wife had enough of the open headers. Apparently it was rattling the walls in the house. Hmmm, I...

@Dantra I wiped the white printing off the gates shrink clamps with lacquer thinner. It came off with zero effort.

The headlight, horn, and fan wiring is all in the driver side fender well. I attached some P clamps with nuts to the bottoms of the fender bolts to hold the wiring up. AC and heater hoses are in the passenger side fender well held in the same manner.

It runs! My gates heat shrink hose clamps didn’t show up so I could run it for very long. I put 2 gallons of coolant in it and it still isn’t even up to the water pump. That was enough for me to run a couple minutes. That single big throttle body sure makes throttle response snappy. It’s pretty...

Hemi Swapping a perfectly good 70 Duster

I knocked 15% fuel out of the whole fuel table since the engine is 15% smaller in displacement. No idea if that has any relevance, but figured it would be a good place to start. For the timing table, I found a few examples online and made some things up based on those tables. It's pretty...

Ended up getting the coil drivers installed last night. It wasn't as time consuming as I thought it would be. Taking the seat out helped make work under the dash easier. For those not knowing or understanding why I needed to install coil drivers, I thought I'd explain it. I was previously...

Not much time on the car over the weekend but managed to knock out a few things. "Cold air intake" adds 25HP, right? This will be painted with Cerakote to match the rest of the black engine parts after I weld my IAC bung and a bracket on it. PS tank and overflow are painted and I had to...

Thanks! I also hate the appearance of worm drive hose clamps. On the LA engine, I had put heat shrink on them and painted them black to mask the ugly. I've never used them, but that's what I intend to use on the heater hoses since both ends have a threaded fitting for removal. I'm going to...

Hemi Swapping a perfectly good 70 Duster

Got a few things knocked out this week. Radiator is in, upper hose in an 06 Charger RT hose. The lower I purchased didn't work. I think a hose with a 45 degree angle will work. They seem to be a fairly common universal hose. I trimmed the heater hoses up and they laid out nice and neat. My AC...

When @HemiDenny originally designed his G3 hemi mounts, he used the Milodon oil pan. The Holley cast pan is a little deeper in the front and back and the sump is also in a slightly different position. Denny couldn't say with 100% certainty that the Holley pan would work without some...

    Cold Case Radiator Hoses

I'm using a Northern LS swap radiator. I realized after I replied that mine likely has the connections further out than that vertical flow radiator.
