Ah yes, I missed the abbreviation for ScumMast- ahem, I mean Speedmaster.

SM Head Modifications on a budget

You talking about factory or aftermarket heads for the testing? Or are these experiments going to apply to the majority of small block heads? Whatever it is, I have my popcorn ready.

Where can I buy a reliable remanufactured 318 for 1971 Duster?

I don't understand why this oil leak on top of the motor or so is so hard to find. Use a mirror on a stick and a flashlight. Another idea would be to put UV dye in the engine oil and check with the black light, but that may be a bit too extreme.

Where can I buy a reliable remanufactured 318 for 1971 Duster?

A little vague and mostly not possible most of the time now. Double it and you are closer to reality.

    Upper control arm replacement

Some things I would like to point out. 1. The members helping the OP are doing a good job and deserve two thumbs up. 2. This is a thread for the suspension components in the Small Block Mopar Engines section. 3. What now makes this funny is that a mod has not noticed and moved the thread yet...

    UTG vs DDG

This whole race callout grudge match thing sounds like fun! I wanna callout someone to a race, but who shall it be?:steering:

    318 LA build log

An update again, The oil pan is the wrong blue. Because the paint I used was not from the same batch. Duplicolor must have fixed the issue of the paint not matching good enough and I painted the engine with the newer corrected paint. I ran out of the newer paint and used some old Chrysler blue...

Does this prove David Vizard's 128 lsa formula ?

No arguin, just a conversation. Also, gonna hopefully see what one cam can do for this guy. I'm betting not a lot of power, but good enough.

If there is a solid car to work with under that crust, then I think you did alright.

Does this prove David Vizard's 128 lsa formula ?

I see. But Hughes seems to still be a little different. Also I the formula works for @.050 lift too, which I checked with the cam specs from Comp Cams. So since Hughes only lists their timings @.050, I did a check and cam up with a duration number that does not fall in between the stated...

Does this prove David Vizard's 128 lsa formula ?

I've been doing some reading and stuff. The formula used to get duration "LSA+ (overlap÷2)x2= Duration", is it used by many cam companies? I noticed that the formula calculates with the same duration using the same 110 LSA and overlap as the multple different Comps cams that I checked, like...

Does this prove David Vizard's 128 lsa formula ?

Tests would be cool to see on this. 2-4 lbs-ft per degree of LSA does not seem like alot, but I guess in racing every little bit counts.

Does this prove David Vizard's 128 lsa formula ?

I plan on purchasing a few books by multiple authors when I get the chance. This will expand my knowledge further and I will have multiple sources to compare and contrast. As for the cam LSA, DV's 128 formula thing kind of goes against what I have learned in the past. Usually too short LSA is...

    Tapper to roller cam conversion

This is going to be so expensive lol. 450hp with Edelbrock heads and a roller cam conversion, plus going with adjustable rockers if you go with solid roller lifters as suggested. Well, if it makes you happy, go for it and make it look pretty.

Continuing, I know that you can buy a used cast iron factory 4 barrel intake manifold for cheap, which was something I was looking for last year, until I picked up my cast iron 2 barrel manifold one day and felt the pain in my back. Yup! That was one of the two main deciding factors that made me...

I forgot to add more stuff. Installed the valve springs at as close to the correct hight I can get. I needed some shims of different thicknesses and was lucky the machine shop had plenty in stock. These springs with the dampers I bought from Hughes to use with their cam as they suggested. I'll...

There is nothing there to buy, not much I can do on the site to find the book. Maybe it's because I'm on mobile? I'll check around on the interweb and see if I can find it. Thank you though.

Does this prove David Vizard's 128 lsa formula ?

This whole cam selection formula thing from DV has sparked my interest, maybe I might try it for the next engine I do. I want get more engine performance books, maybe I might pick up DV's How to Build Horsepower book.:)

Does this prove David Vizard's 128 lsa formula ?

So... once I have the duration I'm assuming that number is the off the seat number? What if the spec of cams to choose from only have the advertised duration at .050 tappet lift?

Does this prove David Vizard's 128 lsa formula ?

Ah, I see now. Thank you. I did some math for a low compression 8.6: 1 or so 318 with stock 1.78in valves and would need an LSA of 105 degrees. I'm assuming this is for a ballpark max performance cam and not a normal street use engine that needs high vacuum, or at least for some cases.

Does this prove David Vizard's 128 lsa formula ?

Sorry if I sound like a noob, but I'm getting confused because everyone is talking about LSA and DV's 128 formula is for the LCA(lobe centerline angel). I thought, but do correct me, that LSA and LCA are two different things. I thought the LCA is the centerline angle of the lobe timing or...

    318 LA build log

Alright, part two. My experience with engine performance is mostly for stock factory engines, so I pretty much just fix stuff that is not performing like it normally should in a normal factory daily driver. I've done the some form of easy basic hotroding before to my own junk and some tweaking...
