Exactly. The same guy that can fail my car for state inspection, doesn't know how to align it. Make it make sense. I'm just saying that out of frustration, and I've been in that situation before. Felt like I made an educated decision and wound up being the wrong choice. I'll get it figured out...

    Ok, that makes more sense.

No need to apologize, you posted good information to be considered. There isn't enough adjustment in the SPC uppers? That defeats the purpose of adjustable uppers.

    Adjustable upper control arm opinions.

I know it is. My frustration is that after spending the money on good parts, alignment shops in my area won't align an old car. So now I have to buy the tools and learn how to do it. Both of which aren't terrible things, it's just more money and time that I don't have an abundance of. I had...

This is what I'm here for. Thank you for taking the time to measure and map out the difference between A and FMJ knuckles. I've had a suspicion that the FMJ knuckles have been part of the problem with how bad my car drives. I ran them with the stock uppers, torsion bars, lowers, strut rods, and...

Yeah, when it had the stock torsion bars it felt like a boat. The KYBs I put on with the bigger torsion bars made it feel like a low rider with cut or torched springs.

I know it was worse with the KYB shocks that were on it. It improved with some generic shocks I had in the garage. I plan on getting Bilsteins in the future, just want to get the alignment right and have the car drive somewhat decent.

I'm glad they gave you a full refund on the UCA's. If I was the original purchaser I would try to return them, but I bought them used.

Thank you posting this, it's a lot to process and think about. What you said about trying to prevent rolling by using heavier sway and torsion bars really stood out. Theoretically it would work, but it would make the car miserable to drive on the street. To be honest, I'm considering going down...

I bought them used, so I have no idea when they were made. They didn't look very old or used for very long. Yeah, it's pretty much a guessing game without having a known good UCA. Thanks for letting me know the reason for the UBJ location change.

Thanks for taking the time to look into this. It would be interesting to know the reason for the change in the ball joint position.

If I'm not mistaken, a couple of guys in Kern Dog's thread said there was a bad batch of PST arms that weren't jigged up correctly. I don't know if PST offered replacements or refunds, but that train has set sail.

It was your thread that got me thinking about this. I sold my original uppers before realizing there might be a problem with the PST arms.

    Adjustable upper control arm opinions.

Yes, those were the numbers I had to work with. I didn't try to adjust the stock UCA's, so I don't know for sure if it's a problem with the car or the control arm. I read Kern Dog's post and that's what got me thinking that the arms are not the same.

I could drill them for the grease zerks and make delrin bushings if necessary.

Yes, front and rear eccentrics are all the way in. I started with the front eccentric out, but had about 3* positive camber.

Of course they are. It never fails that when I take so long to decide what parts I want to get, they become extinct and the new version is what's available.
  18. tcanin00

    Adjustable upper control arm opinions.

Yes, the eccentrics are all the way in and it has positive camber. I would believe it's an issue with the car itself. I know these were high production/low quality cars with tolerances of Monday through Friday. I'll have to do the math to figure out how thick of a spacer I need to correct the...
  19. tcanin00

    Adjustable upper control arm opinions.

Yeah, it's not as bad as I thought it would be. The problem is that the right side UCA is out of adjustment. I have heard of guys using shims on the bolts between the knuckle and lower ball joint to get the camber where they want it. The UCA's have solid aluminum bushings and I don't think...

    Adjustable upper control arm opinions.

Well, it took longer than I thought to get accurate alignment numbers. Left Right Caster +6.5 +6.0 Camber -.75 +.50 This is how the car is now with the UCA eccentrics cranked all the way in on both sides. I did not...

I understood what you were saying about welding the sway bar tabs on the LCA's. That's something I'll worry about later. I am thankful be to have worked at a machine shop and be taught be guys with a lot of knowledge, experience, and patience because I am unteachable. Now I work in shop that...

    Adjustable upper control arm opinions.

The reason I don't have good alignment numbers yet is that I bought a Longacre alignment gauge cheap, and don't feel like paying $85 for the adapter that threads onto the end of the spindle. I'm in the process of making the part. Once I get it done, and some time to mess with it, I'll get actual...

Sorry for the delayed response, but the problem with a stock front sway bar and the tubular K member isn't the LCA's, it's because the tubular K member has different dimensions compartment to the stock K member. So I would have to use QA1's sway bar that is made for their K member.
  24. tcanin00

    Adjustable upper control arm opinions.

I would need to get the QA1 LCA's if I want to run a sway bar with their tubular K member. The mount locations and QA1 sway bar is completely different than stock A body bars. Their LCA's look to be a decent product and i have not heard anything negative about them. I know the tubular K member...

Good looking set up. And to be honest, the 1.08" torsion bars are on harsh side going from whatever the stock V8 bars were. I might go down a size or two in diameter and sell what I have.

    Adjustable upper control arm opinions.

Thank you for letting me know how they're working for you. I think the lack of caster on wide tires is why my car feels as disconnected as it does.

Thanks for letting me know your experience with them. Your car is definitely more set up for aggressive handling. That's the deciding factor on Gen I vs. II. I'm not going to be pushing my car to it's absolute limits. A dedicated track car would benefit from from the improvement in roll center.

It's a shame, because they look like a quality product.

I read your thread on the PST UCA's and that's what got me thinking about changing them for something better. I bought them used for what I thought was a deal. Now they're money lost on trying to be cheap.
