That’s interesting. I would say we never lost control of the timing. And the plugs show that. We weren’t too conservative with it, but we also didn’t run it out to the limit (IMO) either. How does the 2nd ring get torched?

Trying to think of possibilities that don’t involve cumbustion gas. It’s so hard for me to see that happening from heat in the chamber. Unless the top ring gap was like an inch wide.

How bout possibly breaking the second ring land on assembly? Pushing the piston down with the second ring not compressed all the way?

Funny you say that, there was odd markings in the bore that in my tiny little brain were reminiscent of ring flutter.

I thought the same thing. And asked if there was a way we could measure the 2nd ring gap, but it’s in too many pieces.

They run HARD in Miatas. I built a sandrail for a friend of mine and used a j35 mendeola combo. That car is a riot in the dunes. I was sold on the J35 then and knew I wanted to use one in a car.

I’m going for stupid simple. A motion raceworks can, a couple of -10 bungs welded in the valve covers and some hose.

It’s a fun car. 2600 lbs, over 600hp and 18x10s on all 4 corners. I’m in the middle of phase 2 right now and that involves moving the engine 12” back and doing some sheetmetal work. And some rear suspension work. The front is dialed, but the rear needs a 4 link and a watts.

And after it slumbers down to a 16 sec pass I’m hoping for round 2 we can get you to turbo it.
