Not bad, 408 numbers with what a lot consider a throw away engine :)

BORE SHROUDING TEST: 4.03" vs 3.91" Edelbrock RPM Heads Really Fit a 318? Project Mission Impossible

This topic reminded me of this build, the ported EQ results I all ways found a little disappointing. The shrouding might be/part the cause of this 400 hp 318 recipe, when they upgraded the 1.92 EQ's (402 hp) to ported 2.03 EQ's (227 VS 273 cfm @ .500" lift) and got 425 hp both at 6,200 rpm...

    Stall speed

For those that know got a question somewhat related. Say you shift at 6,400 rpm peak hp is at 5,800 rpm but you got a long flat torque curve of at least 450 lbs-ft from 3,500-4,500 rpms but technically peaks 455 lbs-ft at 3,500 rpm. Wouldn't something around a 4,500 rpm stall...

    Stall speed

Converters are still a bit of a mystery to me but seems to me for the streets you need at least enough stall to coverup cam overlap and above that how much performance you want (compromise/uncompromise) and "UN" seems around peak torque.

    Brainstormin' 440 vs 5.9 ...

You need one of these :) P.S. If you or anyone buys one or has one buy a tarp also to throw over top to slow the sun/wind rotting the shelter top.

BORE SHROUDING TEST: 4.03" vs 3.91" Edelbrock RPM Heads Really Fit a 318? Project Mission Impossible

All it is, is a piece of information, outside of the 15-25 cfm loss across most the lift range it tells us little in itself, how an engine will respond from this loss ? To me 400 hp and under probably very little looking at how sub 400 hp 318 perform. But at some point it probably does have an...

BORE SHROUDING TEST: 4.03" vs 3.91" Edelbrock RPM Heads Really Fit a 318? Project Mission Impossible

Adding or lowering compression is just gonna raise or lower the entire powerband, not strong on bottom dead on top.

BORE SHROUDING TEST: 4.03" vs 3.91" Edelbrock RPM Heads Really Fit a 318? Project Mission Impossible

You can run like a 100 hp of air/fuel through an engine to 1000's of hp of air/fuel, compression generally is gonna make those numbers vary like 0-25%. So if you run a 100 hp of air/fuel at 7:1 and crank it to 17:1 you might gain like 20-25% + power.

    Every day economy build

When saying economy, is the goal to actually save money? Cause if so spending thousands to gain a few mpg's can take a long time just to recoup cost nevermind save money.

727 Lower Gear Set for street/highway use

For a street car power generally starts kicking in at 3,000 rpm's (hp is 57% of torque) the lower the mph you can get there easier it is to get into the powerband at reasonable road speeds, a set of 3.23 only gonna add about 250 rpm to cruising speed and with 2.74 1st would be a good compromise...

BORE SHROUDING TEST: 4.03" vs 3.91" Edelbrock RPM Heads Really Fit a 318? Project Mission Impossible

Agree, I think for most especially doing around 400 hp or less 318 this info don't change much.

BORE SHROUDING TEST: 4.03" vs 3.91" Edelbrock RPM Heads Really Fit a 318? Project Mission Impossible

In the last video he measure .110" between the 3.91" bore and 2.02" valve so the 4.03" bore should be about .170"

BORE SHROUDING TEST: 4.03" vs 3.91" Edelbrock RPM Heads Really Fit a 318? Project Mission Impossible

Depends on exactly how much cr vs how much overall airflow gain (VE%), Airflow generally has way more potential.

BORE SHROUDING TEST: 4.03" vs 3.91" Edelbrock RPM Heads Really Fit a 318? Project Mission Impossible

Even though it killed a decent amount of cfm but it's not like most are taking advantage of all the cfm in the 1st place. A 250-450 hp+ sbm recipe's seems fairly the same to me whether it's a 318 or 340 or 360.

BORE SHROUDING TEST: 4.03" vs 3.91" Edelbrock RPM Heads Really Fit a 318? Project Mission Impossible

I've seen a 305 VS 350 flow bench comparison and the loss was a lot smaller but I think it was 1.9? valves, always wonder how a 318 bore would effect it, killed more than I thought it would but a 318 especially with an overbore is still capable of making decent hp, wonder how bad a 273 does :)

BORE SHROUDING TEST: 4.03" vs 3.91" Edelbrock RPM Heads Really Fit a 318? Project Mission Impossible

The 318 bore killed more cfm then I thought it would.

    AFR heads: Good Choice?

SM, Edelbrocks etc.. Probably do similar but 440 hp with a xe268h is really good though, not saying the others wouldn't do the same but so far only seen them with bigger cams putting out similar numbers and torque is up there with a decent 360.

    360 HP estimate

Obviously more cr makes more power but less ain't the kiss of death like he tries to make it out as, peoples dyno and 1/4 mile etc.. results, Proves him wrong and he just ignores and keeps writing his novel over and over again, acting like he's unjustly bullied. A low cr 360 is just gonna make...

    360 HP estimate

It wouldn't be so bad if he used realistic torque numbers based off actual 360 dyno results instead of numbers pull out of his ***, (which he admits) but that would kill his theory so he uses exaggerated numbers to make it work.
