67 Barracuda Factory Air - Worth Fixing Up?

I put a factory ac in my 69 barracuda and I like it. I use R134 and it will freeze you out. 1. Do you still have factory air that works in 67-69 Barracudas? Mine works good, but I have a new expansion valve, condenser, dryer and fan. 2. Are there replacement parts for under the dash available...

The spring breaks on these with some frequency. You can replace it with an extension spring.

Hello from Aurora, IL! Bought a Duster with an ignition issue

How big is the added fuse for the ignition? Could it be to small? The reason I was asking about the regular car fuses is that the ignition power feeds some of them. The radio and heater fan and turn signals are supplied by fuses, so I would think that those fuses would blow if the short was...

Hello from Aurora, IL! Bought a Duster with an ignition issue

If it is popping fuses routinely, then start unhooking things until the fuse stops blowing. The melted ignition module is a good place to start. I also would try the coil and the voltage regulator. Are any of the fuses in the fuse box blowing? Are there other electrical modifications to the car?

No power to ignition or dash

The two big wires that go through the bulkhead connector are the feed and return for the amp meter. The dash can be powered up by either one, since they are effectively tied together at the amp meter. It sounds like the fusible link was abandoned and the dash is getting its power through the...

No power to ignition or dash

Does the alternator current still pass through the bulkhead connector and amp meter, or did you do a bypass?

No power to ignition or dash

Have you upgraded wiring for the bigger alternator? I don’t think the stock wiring will handle that big of an alternator. It is likely that the bulkhead connector is compromised if you are passing that much current through it. Most of these cars came with about 35 amp alternators. There are...

    Two Light Questions

The ground on the headlight switch only will affect the dome light. May not be necessary if the headlight switch grounds to the frame, but doesn’t hurt to hook it up to ground. Could be a bad led bulb for glove box. You could get another bulb, but Do you really need a led in the glove box?

Fan clutch replacement guidance and recommendations

The hose collapsing probably means that it is not able to stand the pull of the water pump. That was the purpose of the spring inside hoses on some models. I suppose that it could also be an indication of blockage in the radiator, but I would think that would show up at idle as well. Just a...

Fan clutch replacement guidance and recommendations

You may be able to rev up the engine in park after a good long drive & watch hose to see if it is collapsing.

There are many different types of led bulbs with different arrangements of LEDs. You might try another type. Mine light up pretty well with LEDs.

    rebuilding an alt

Not really true. Diodes, like most electronic components are degraded by heat, corrosion, thermal cycling, mechanical stress and applied voltage. They are very reliable compared to moving parts, but still can “wear out” after years of use.

    rebuilding an alt

If it is not brushes or the diode block, the rest of a rebuild is probably more trouble than it is worth.

Tell me about your ballast resistor failure.

I don’t ever remember any other ballast resistor other than the common dual ballast resistor back in the day. The half ohm was points and the 1.2 was electronic. The ignition systems were designed as “systems”, so changing parts can be problematic. What is really important is the current through...

    Shock absorber opinion

I recently bought some KYB shocks for the rear of my Barracuda. The gas charge was so great that I couldn’t get even close to compressing them by hand. It looks like they bumped up my ride height about an inch or something like that. They might be just what you want.

another temp gauge/fuel gauge/voltage regulator thread

I would get a aftermarket temp gauge so you know where you are really at. You can buy a mechanical one that installs in the upper radiator hose pretty easily. Depending on how bad you want the oem one, this can be a good solution. Some folks don’t like the radiator hose senders because they...

Rewire 67 Dart GT - need recommendations - what's best?

M&H from year one are copies of the originals. You don’t need a lot of electronic skill to replace the originals, since they are the same. This is what I did. The only bad news is all the accessories harnesses (like AC) are sold separately, so it drives the cost up. Use dielectric grease on all...

They are not that hard to find if you have about $600-900 in your wallet. They even make them new now. If you don’t want to the spend that much, the 72-74 a body 340 360 manifolds are a lot cheaper. That is what I have on my 69 Cuda.
